Definitely was the case initially, as each individual can have at least 3 stores under their name.
They are getting close to operating enough stores to surpass this limit though, so he might need to move onto nieces / nephews and aunts / uncles next
Until the first COVID lockdown it remained 24hrs IIRC. As you would know General Retail Hours only apply to the Perth metro area, outside of that each council can set their own hours. Shire of Broome also has / had no restrictions and therefore 24/7 trading of supermarkets was occurring up there some years ago too.
@Travis it sounds more like workplaces laws need adjustment; people should be paid extra for working late, rather than forcing stores to close.
Businesses should be able to run 24x7, if they think itâs profitable for them to do so.
As a customer I certainly have appreciated being able to shop late, for various reasons, including when Iâve been stuck at work late due to an urgent problem.
Laws should ensure staff have predictability and reasonable choice (I think workers shouldnât be required to work late), but of course if someone wants the extra pay (to compensate for losing out personal time), whatâs wrong with that?
Certain types of business are exempt from restricted trading days, which means they can open on any day of the year. Exempt businesses include:
chemists
petrol shops
restaurants
cafes
takeaway outlets
service providers
hire outlets (including video stores)
exempt shops.
Exempt shops are businesses that meet the following criteria:
They have 20 or fewer persons employed in the shop at any time on a restricted trading day.
The number of persons employed by the business and its related entities is no more than 100 at any time during the 7 days immediately before the restricted trading day
Many pubs and clubs in NSW open early on ANZAC Day. Some RSL and bowling clubs have their own memorial services and offer BBQ breakfasts opening sections of their venues to families to commemorate the day and mingle with people who served.
I used to do shift work working at Crown in melbourne. theres nothing worse than having to get up during the day after a night shift to shop - i was fortunate in some respects as i lived in a studio apartment in the CBD so if i was desperate for a feed i was able to always get something, and i could go to a number of 24 hour convience stores (as well as a crown employees only store) if i needed bread and milk
I believe in the case of retail trading hours, the state government (and i live in Qld) needs to get out the way and deregulate trading hours, with the obvious exceptions (anzac day, christmas, etc)
you only need to go to woolworths at brisbane airport (that is open 24/7 as it is on federal land is not bound by normal trading laws) on days when the shops are shut to see a need for this
If i was managing the building I would get them to paint the front of the building so it doesnât look like they just removed the logo as part of the make good when vocating the premises. It looks terrible. Itâs like people changing trading hours on the front of the building by printing off the new hours on a piece of paper and sticky taping it over the top of the old hours. That would not be allowed for longer than a month as it looks unsightly.
Doesnât really matter. The next tenant will paint it or install their logo over it.
Chemist Warehouse moved across to another part of Rockdale Plaza months ago. The vacated shopfront had the garish yellow and blue panelling on the shopfront for ages. Now that Cotton On is moving in, they have replaced everything with white.
Meanwhile Strandbags shut down and then the small family owned jeweller shut down. Now those two shops are being replaced by a Prouds Jewellers. Seems some shopping centres are still doing well after the pandemic lockdowns.
