Well, we have Cruze (AM) in this part of the world. Fair to say most people are listening via 93.5 and not 531kHz. Still doesn’t change the fact that it is officially an AM station.
Not long ago New FM played The Look by Roxette, and towards the end where the silence gap is I could hear a male voice talking in the background. I switched over to HD and sure enough, it sounded like the same voice
There would be many children that haven’t even seen a vehicle radio tuner with analogue tuning dial & less knowing the start & end MW frequencies of the AM broadcast band…
I remember a billboard in the 80s promoting 4GY “Radio 56” on the highway, it actually had a radio dial and named other stations (4SS, 4KQ and I think 4QR) and showed their positions on the dial relative to 4GY. Obviously aimed at drivers heading north out of Brisbane towards Gympie so they could find 4GY, which was right on the extreme left of the dial.
Yep I sure do :). I used to do the drive from Brisbane to Maryborough at least once a month for years to visit my family. It was on a sharp bend of the Bruce Highway just north of the town of Cooroy - which has since been bypassed of course It was the perfect location for a billboard as it was right in front of you as you approached the almost 90 degree bend.
A question about SRN scheduling which I haven’t quite been able to figure out.
Markets outside Sydney’s timezone, so 8HA Alice Springs and 2BH Broken Hill for example, do they take the network shows live or on delay? Looking at 8HA’s website I’d be left thinking they take Chris Smith on delay from 9-12 in their local timezone. Supposing that’s true, surely they at least go live for the sport coverage they take from SEN?
They take it all live. Meaning poor Broken Hill, for years now, have been putting up with half-hourly national news bulletins, going from NSW time, not local time.
I would expect 8HA and others would also be the same. Working around NSW time to cater for network programming.
Mind you, as a talkback listener that would be the best option, rather than cop flack for calling 13 12 69 to be told the show is not live (I’m looking at you SCA, Nova & ARN national drive shows)…
Can confirm news on the half hour as growing up in NE Pastoral SA we could pick up 2BH quite well so when the parents in the car would randomly say “can we get some news?” I as the resident radio nerd would say “Actually yes!” But my parents were/still are too rusted onto the ABC so it only happened a couple of times from memory.
Yes, 2BH took news on the (Croweater) half hour when I visited in July. Hill FM had a locally programmed music hour after the voice tracked breakfast show; some of the music played in that was quite good.
Can stream 2sm in many countries, real time ,not delayed for any reasons other than package lag etc.you can hear pensioners complaining about the real problem with the world. Even from the Mojave.
I’m pretty sure 2SM is pumped in 24/7 to some of those Chinese labour camps as punishment. It’s also oddly popular in some bunkers in Saint Petersburg.
I heard Barry Hill this morning, he had a quiz with no prize, just bragging rights that you got the answer right. Surely Chris Smith can spare a few coffee mugs or beach towels.
What’s the actual point of running a quiz then? They do make some weird decisions over there, the other night Sharlynne Darcy or however it’s spelt spent about half an hour reading a book out over the air.
