They’ll just start to become more like other networks… less individualism, but look, feel and sound a bit more professional and modern, with things like streaming and better looking websites.
Absolutely laughable. Top 40 music from modern-day Pop artists like Teddy Swims, ROSE/Bruno Mars and Sabrina Carpenter being played on a station titled B-Rock. Watch this space, as Bathurst is set to become the Spotify capital of Australia. Steer well clear of B-Rock, as there’s essentially no more rock.
Had a listen to their stream this arvo and they even played Billie Ellish. Very much just taking BOG’s music log now. Was able to confirm by also putting on NEW FM 105.3 thanks to light Newcastle tropo into Sydney (via the TVCL North TEF webserver). Why have the word Rock in your name if you’re not gonna play Rock music? Might as well change the station name to B-Pop. And the slogan Rock of the West? That should be changed to Pop of the West.
With this, the station now very appropriately joins K-Rock Geelong who also has the word Rock in their name but just takes ARN’s music log as heard on ARN’s regional Top 40 stations, with no Rock played whatsoever. If any rock, it’ll probably be indie-rock or pop-rock, but that’s about it.
I expected this eventually; I’m sure the Caralis heirs would be laughing at the rhetoric on here but they’ve got too much money to make.
Time for one of my periodical doses of reality: commercial radio is a business. Actually, the real business is property (physical and intellectual, much like fast food). And we all know McDonalds aint exactly haute cuisine.
(I partake in this lamenting myself, so carry on. But it’s akin to Grampa Simpson shaking his fist at the clouds. I do complain about the weather too.)
It seems as though they could have let the Bathurst stations continue being local during business hours it’s not a small market like what they do for stations like 2TM, 2DU etc and their FM supplementary licenses that are locall 6am to 4pm at least for Zoofm and they take the SN feed from around 6pm. Maybe their day time announcer left and they decided not to replace them and this came at a network level hence the afternoon network feed. Seems like a strange decision given what they are doing at the larger SN stations.
Regarding Bathurst, we all knew it was inevitable that this would happen. It’s just coincidental & timely that Bathurst’s period whereby they needed to retain staff was around when Bill was alive.
I’m sure this was on the cards at some point.
As for SRN, I am still yet to read anywhere where their former NOVA newsreader has gone. She was meant to start early/mid January 2025 from previous articles in the media. What has happened?
Sadly Dad got his way with the rest of the media owners in this country - protection from new competition and favourable regulations. It may be a business, but people bitch about all businesses. It’s just not we’re likely to go Jan 6 on them. If we did, the joint would look like Germany after WWII.
