Sunrise (2020-Feb 2025)

The Today Show is doing a pre-recorded interview.

Losing Inala would have been a disaster for Labor in Qld. But it’s still pretty grim if you have a look at the swings in each seat - if that is replicated across the state then Labor is toast.

I thought today was okay. Yesterday was worse with “Labor sweats- Labor concedes they have lost control of our borders.” Not really, they admitted they must comply with the law.

I don’t see it that way. Mark Riley basically called the Qld election this morning saying that it’s all over for Labor now. In the Victorian by-election the other week, a 7% swing was considered bad federally. Here, there are 20% swings against the state government. Whilst the state government has been publicly admitting they are expecting large swings, comparatively it does look bad right?

I didn’t watch Mon’s interview with the PM the other week. But, generally, I wouldn’t describe her as conservative. Having not seen the interview, I obviously can’t say, but I would guess it would have been more sensationalist than biased.

Exactly. You didn’t watch it so you didn’t see it.

And I wasn’t referring just to the Riles segment. It was all show long.

And it’s a headline again this morning: “Heartland humiliation”. They’re really keen to get rid of the Miles government.
And the federal immigration issue is being called a “visa bungle” and “the government is putting the community at risk”, when we know it’s actually the law and the high court decisions that are the reason. This matter has been explained 2 days in a row now, yet they still report inaccurate information.

In this age of deceasing free to air viewership and tight network budgets, they need to consider how they use resources. Having Georgia Costi “live on the scene” to report the by-election result from 2 days ago is really unnecessary. Her reporting added nothing to the intro that was read by Eddy.
Additionally, the vision they showed was of LNP Mayor on election night, yet the local government elections were not mentioned at all.
Most mornings their live cross to Qld is unnecessary.

Genuine question: is it a bias or just sensationalism? Not that there’s much excuse either way. But Sunrise is probably as tabloid as it gets (maybe next to Today). Putting my tin foil hat on a little, these presenters are all very well-paid… so I suppose many of them will vote Liberal. Gotta look after number 1! (Apart from Kochie on the other hand, whom I suspect is a quiet Labor voter)

Looks like the “in studio exclusive” with Jack Black is a pre-record with replacement “Mini hosts”.

Even ABC Breakfast had him, albeit not in studio. Clutching at straws.

If they want to save money it should not come from core services like the Brisbane correspondent but i would reduce the times Sam Mac travels. I believe there are at least 4 people involved. The producer(human emoji) camera operator, audio technician and possibly a link technician. Even though they probably have an cheaper arrangement if the trip to wherever is not sponsored it would cost about $1000 a day at least. If they fly to Brisbane on Monday, Melbourne on Tuesday, Adelaide on Wednesday etc it would start to add up. I would limit the amount of travel they do if they want to save more money.

It’s all about perception - they need to look like they’re all over it. Plus the correspodents work everyday anyway, they’re just dispatched to the biggest story in their patch.

I was going to say, in-studio doesnt mean live. It just means not from the junket. Don’t like the mini host concept though. Unless its Ant & Dec, it just doesn’,t work.

This is possibly the most profitable part of the show. Many (but not all) of these segments are paid and cost of crew is included. When Sam Mac is in Sydney, that’s when he either has something on or they have no clients lined up.

The point I was making was send the reporter to the location of the most important story for that city/state, rather than to cover something that happened 2 days prior.

Later this morning, following an interview with David Crisafulli, Shirvo made the point that they have been inviting Steven Miles to the show since February, and he hasn’t accepted (wonder why?!)
Nat’s response, “That’s strange.” Really?!

Noticed that Sunrise put quite a bit of effort into Melbourne features this morning, especially the high rating 7am hour. From multiple local news segment headlines to special reports like Shirvo’s Run for the Kids yesterday to live-crosses like Teegan Dolling on the Great Ocean Road to on-location weather with Sam Mac at Albert Park for the Grand Prix and banter (even if forced/confected) regarding most of those between Nat, Shirvo and Eddy. Will be interesting to see ratings tomorrow morning vs Today and News Breakfast.

Anyone notice this prior to the opener on Sunday’s WS? Was looking for something on 7+ and noticed this on the replay.

It was very quick, basically you blinked you missed it.

Sorry if reported but I am seeing that there is a change in the Early news from next week to Sunrise 5am News.

hmmm…

No change here in Adelaide - guides still list Early News at 5am, and Sunrise at 5:30am.

Looks like Eddy will present.

More cost cutting, easier to get the Sunrise newsreader to present rather than have another presenter do the early bulletin?

Which begs the question. Where is Jodie off to?
