The last official State of Origin match until Saturday

I think it was due to TVW7 not affiliated with east coast stations until 1979 (forming the Seven Network that we know today). Before that, TVW7 had its own programming and presentation.

30 Years Ago today the 1996 Cricket World Cup commenced. Opening match between England v New Zealand was shown on Channel 9 on tape delay.

Though i believe that’s Optus’s Sports Australia showed matches live.

Got my first VCR that i paid for with my own money, made sure it had long play just before the start of that tournament. Not bad for somebody pushing 16 and still at High School

Managed to find the original Seven footage of the match point in the 2012 Australian Open men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

Love the words from Bruce: “There’s nothing I can say that can do justice to what we’ve just seen”.

With today (February 28 of 2026) marking the passing of one of the greatest Racehorses of the 21st Century (Makybe Diva), I thought that I’d share with you all the 2005 Running of the VRC Melbourne Cup Race, which was Seven’s fourth time exclusively broadcasting the Cup (Third of Fourteen where Greg Miles could be heard on Seven). This one was the third of three straight wins for the great mare.

Channel Seven footage of the 2008 Australian Open women’s semi-final between Ana Ivanovic and Daniela Hantuchova, which the former won after being down 0-6, 0-2.

In commentary were Sandy Roberts and Tracy Austin, with (a younger) Todd Woodbridge courtside (before he took on lead commentating duties in the ensuing years).
