Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

2MC is already “live & local” throughout most of the weekdays. It’s just that its local afternoon program has changed its timeslot, in which it now starts later & finishes later than what it was before. I apologise if anyone’s confused on what I’ve said earlier.

Re 2MC going “Classic Hits”, I remember when I went up to Port Mac back in November 2008, in which I discovered that for a MRR station (precursor to SCA), 2MC had a “Classic Hits” format, whilst most of the other MRR stations such as 2GO, 2GZ & 2CS, had a ‘variety hits’-type format. Most MRR stations, except for when programming is ‘hubbed’ from a central location, had their own playlists.

the thing that surprises me is “The Mid North’s Coast’s Classic Hits” - 2MC and that region has always had the slogan “The Holiday Coast’s” - so why now change it to Mid North Coast?

According to a comment on their Facebook page, 2MC is now playing Classic Hits from the 60s, 70s & 80s. Quite unusual for a commercial FM station, either metro or regional, in this day & age to have that kind of format, considering that WS in Sydney now doesn’t play any 60s & not very much 70s on its normal “Pure Gold” playlist.
Then again, the new format would suit the area’s demographic well, which is mostly full of retirees & baby boomers.

5SE and a few others as well, log is coming from 4GR Toowoomba.

4GR was making sure listeners knew they were classic hits this morning; made a big deal about it during “Big Breakfast” - the ID was Toowoomba and the Downs’ Classic Hits

Mix FM 103.5 is also now Fraser Coast’s Classic Hits. Their big breakfast announcers also got the memo so “here’s another classic hit”, “what another great classic hit” etc.

Briefly heard Queen, BeeGees, Supertramp, Beatles, Supremes all from the 70s. Another ID used was Fraser Coast’s Classic Hits - From the best years of our lives".

the network log is coming from there too, so to them it is a big deal

Beatles & Supremes are actually from the 60s, unless it was “Let It Be” or “The Long & Winding Road” in the case of the former, which both came out in 1970 before they broke up.

I haven’t checked on 2GZ yet on whether they’re gone “Classic Hits” or not, but I’ll check later in the afternoon (they’re airing Ray Hadley & Alan Jones until Midday).

You’re right abou the 60s - I think the Beatles song was Revolution and The Supremes was Where Did Our Love Go

I’ve just checked 2GZ & they’re still taking the “Greatest Hits” format in parallel with 2GO. So therefore, 2GZ hasn’t gone “Classic Hits” unlike 2MC, 4GR, 5SE & Mix FM Fraser Coast.

Come to think of it, I wonder if 2CS still takes the “Greatest Hits” format & therefore now provide a musical point-of-difference to 2MC’s “Classic Hits” format, which the latter can be heard into much of the Coffs Harbour licence area?

So does that mean when the Classic Hit stations are being networked does it now come from Toowoomba not the Gold Coast anymore?, because 5SE normally networked from the Gold Coast after 12pm, but today some guy named David is currently on and I never heard of him before.

This is all from one ident this afternoon:

Playing even more of those great hits from the 60s, 70 and 80s, The Fraser Coast Classic Hits; From the best years of our lives - Mix Fm whew!

Looking at their websites, it appears that 2WG Wagga & 2RG Griffith have also gone “Classic Hits”, which is not surprising, given that they’re AM stations.

It’s playing out of Townsville

Townsville

whoops, beaten! Cheers man.

Cheers for that Info!

Whats bought the change back to classic hits playlists instead of a Jack FM/Variety playlist? Is it because the Hit streams aren’t solely focused on charting music now?

That’s what I was thinking - the 2 formats should complement each other 60s-80s and 90s-now.

there’s 3 formats on the adult side - with more possibilities to come in the future:

Townsville - “Greatest Hits from the 70s to Now”
Gold Coast - “Greatest Hits from the 80s to Now”
Toowoomba - “Classic Hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s”

Depending on the demographics the station can pick which format it runs. All are a really looking to minimise the spillage to the Hit stations, but there are some adults who still like Rihanna alongside of Springsteen, so you have to also think of them.
