To be honest that is seriously misguided. By all means complain via the appropriate channels to management, but to hijack phones just makes the task more difficult for the remaining teams. These are teams with no additional production support, (except maybe the NSW team out of Gosford) who are now expected carry the weight of multiple stations most likely for no extra money, while no doubt suffering some form of survivors guilt after watching their colleagues lose their jobs and having to replacing.
It appears the Townsville breakfast show is now broadcasting into FNQ, is this the same case for the rest of QLD?
If these stations canât afford 1 local show, maybe they should consider if they deserve to have a license
Grant Broadcasters is still producing multiple local shows on Star FM and 7 shows in Darwin across 2 stations. Itâs nowhere as expensive as TVâŚ
Mostly yes, see the rest of the thread over the last few days to see what stations have pulled their local shows. In QLD Brisbane and the Gold Coast have retained their local brekky shows.
Iâd extend that to local breakfast. Iâm not yet sure how theyâre fulfilling their local content quotas yet, whether any previous breakfast hosts have moved into workdays or split breaks. The website doesnât give any clues.
Seems like local mornings are now replacing local breakfasts in affected markets.
People are not happy on the HIT Port Mac page, nothing but complaints from listeners (well former listeners)
Pretty sure if you look at most regional Hit station Facebook pages, you will see similar comments.
@stilesykenny Iâm not surprised. Bodge & Kristi had a massive local following. They were completely engaged on social media, did countless hours during the bush fires, went to the schools & community events but most importantly they had great chemistry on air.
I know listeners hate it when thereâs a change of teams, over at Triple J itâs ruthless with their audience, but in this case to take away the âfeet on the groundâ & replace it with a show from the footy teamâs arch rival hometown (for e.g.) ainât pretty.
On the Bendigo page, the word 'âHomogeneousâ.
I remember this happening during beginnings of networking, itâs always happened & eventually as time passes other things take hold with it becoming the new normal.
Itâs just sad & I truly feel for those twice as young as me losing their positions but ultimately itâs the local windows & opportunities that are lost forever.
Itâs across most affected pages. Theyâve even been hiding some of the comments.
It might be saving money short-term but I think itâs going to cost SCA long-term. Regional communities hate feeling left behind and theyâll carry a grudge.
Also a lot of negative comments when Hit 93.5 converted to Triple M, more negative then positive.
If Dubbo is surveyed again could Zoo fm go number 1.
How well does Hit 105.9 Orange get into Dubbo?
SCA are making some very bad decisions here all in the sake of cost savings, donât they understand breakfast sets up the stations for the rest of the day?
Look what happened when SCA got rid of Paddy and Sarah at then 2GO, the station took a massive hit and even got beaten by Triple J which is a fortuitous signal from Sydney / Newcastle.
They are simply going to hand market share to their competitors in competitive markets.
i donât thereâs much crossover. The signal isnât strong enough to make it âyour stationâ. If you pick it up, its staticy.
I would assume a good car radio would receive Hit 105.9 ok in Dubbo?
Isnât the distance between Dubbo & Orange about 140km?, canât imagine the reception being crystal clear.
Even at only 5Kw The height of Mt Canobolas gives Hit and Triple M great range.
I do remember from past trips getting these stations quite well on the eastern side of Dubbo. I carnât remember how well they got into Dubbo city.
My extended family runs a business across Regional QLD which has been advertising on some SCA stations for years now - have pulled out as of this month and moved over to Grant Broadcasters.
This seems to be the case for many local/small business advertisers. Bigger national ones donât give a shit if there is local content or not.
The thing that really worries me about the Hit Network breakfast shows being axed is that other regional networks (and potentially within time, even metro stations since many already have networked drive shows) may be encouraged to move in a similar direction at some point in the future.
âŚand even got a few moments of national exposure via Better Homes & Gardens a couple of months back, with one of the co-hosts having a house call from Dr Harry Cooper! ![]()
Further up the highway, what Iâd probably like to know is how long Jay & Tulles lasted on 105.5 Coffs Harbour? Admittedly I didnât ever have the opportunity to listen to their breakfast show, but certainly do remember seeing the television commercials in February 2015 - what was then Star FM & Southern Cross Ten respectively!
Agreed. As much as they should be, I suspect SCA wonât be worried too much for as long as the likes of Harvey Norman & McDonalds are still buying ads on their stations.
Harvey Norman is basically paying the salaries of staff in Regional TV and Radio these days lol
You stole my thunder. I was just about to say the same thing. Lol. So true.
I have worked for Grant and they have been big advocates for localism. I hope they continue to do so and local businesses reward them for it.
Itâs not great in town, as itâs in a bit of a gully.
Itâs good in West Dubbo which is a bit more elevated.
East Dubbo is fine too as you said.
I can remember hearing 105.1 at Narromine in November 2005. Reception wasnât 100% but quite well.
