Sky News (2016-Feb 2025)

Unlikely as Sky is owned by News Corp and it separate to that of Foxtel Group, Sky News could change its name but wouldn’t have to be “Foxtel”, Foxtel would treat Sky News like any other external channel.

I guess the question then is how would this sale whoever buys it/however it plays out effect sky news Aus?

If anything, Foxtel would probably change its name depending on the buyer

This would be a pretty big event if it did happen, given I’ve only ever known it as Foxtel. lol. :joy:

Much like the rule we’ve applied in the Foxtel thread - posts speculating about what may or may not happen with Sky News will be removed from tomorrow until more information comes to light (if indeed it does)

Why are we limiting discussion and engagement on the forums constantly?

Speculating on media future is exactly what the entire industry is doing right now.

Swooping in and shutting down conversations that people are enjoying and deleting posts goes against what users come to chat forums for.

Because we inevitably end up in ridiculous circular speculation that offers nothing more than a way to waste internet electrons.

If you don’t like it, then you don’t have to participate in the forums.

Thats what people come here to do and enjoy doing. If people did not enjoy it they wouldn’t engage in the discussions.

And I said it’s exactly what happens on sites such as deadline.com and in media circles constantly.

The entire industry is rife with speculation.

I don’t think that’s a helpful attitude towards a legitimate concern.

I’ve outlined our position - this is not inconsistent with the approach we’ve made with other similar news with limited details. It would be great if we didn’t need to do this, but history shows that it doesn’t matter how strongly we moderate these discussions, we still end up at the same place, derailed threads.

This ends the discussion on the matter

The self described dictator has spoken! You heard people.

Enjoy the weekend away from the site

if they are going to launch on radio do it properly. have proper hosted radio shows not just TV audio. this is just cheap and nasty, and for the listener its annoying as the focus is on the TV not the radio.

one example was when the ABC put the tv audio over the radio for the new south wales election - alot of “as you can see” and “as this graph shows” which was fine for TV but crap for radio.

Good way to drive subs though if people think they are always missing out on visuals, might entice them to sign up.

Interesting to see how long it lasts. I assume its on Nova bandwidth.

Not a bad alternative to abc news radio for hourly news updates.

I’d say this is just a dabble in radio to see if it’s gonna work. If there’s an audience out there them there’s a high probability of producing radio shows and possibly things like 5 minute radio news on the hour (and could be syndicated to other stations).

But TV on radio isn’t unique. Some TV News bulletins are already on the air like Nine News on River 94.9 Ipswich and Nine Gold Coast News on 4CRB 89.3.

Why did they fly their NZ reporter to Canberra where they already have their biggest pool of reporters?? Seems odd. But I find the whole NZ reporter thing odd.
