Seven West Media

The Herald Sun and Seven Melbourne will be together again under the same owner.

You would expect these two to move into the same building if this eventuated.

Yuck. News Corp donā€™t need to own anymore media properties in Australia and Seven would be better off without this mob.

ā€¦or it could be the start of a resurgence for Seven News in Sydney & Melbourne.

Like it or not, the general populous seems to prefer the Herald Sun/Daily Telegraph approach to newspapers over the one taken by The Age/SMH.

If there were to eventually be a News Corp/SWM merger or takeover, Iā€™d probably eventually expect to see a change in journalistic direction to Seven News. Donā€™t think theyā€™d quite go all the way to a Sky News post-6pm approach but I could easily see Seven News taking a more sensationalist and emotive approach to news coverage (even compared to how things are currently), maybe the inclusion of a brief editorial during 6pm bulletins, etc.

thats what i mean. good bye 7 news and hello 9 news melbourne

Bring it on! News Corp Australia + 7 + Foxtel multi-merger.

To be honestā€¦ Iā€™m not a fan of News Corp, but for the survival of the Seven Network it might be a good deal. Especially against the Nine Media.

Sorry but I can see Seven getting destroyed under that pathetic Murdoch and his News Corp. Just look at what almost happened to 10 had CBS not swooped.

News Corp will just diminish the Seven brand and force their way through like thereā€™s no tomorrow, judging by their actions in recent years.

Cā€™mon Johnson, you really think someone of the calibre of Lachlan Murdoch was doing this himself? :joy: Iā€™d be surprised!

For the record, a Seven/News merger and a Nine/Fairfax merger can be (and are) both bad for media concentration. No need to cheerlead for one team or another here.

Media companies need bigger scale to survive the likes of Netflix and Amazon. Without consolidation they wonā€™t make it. They need scale

Seven needs to be in the streaming business with someone

Seven are already right wing enough so makes sense theyā€™d merge with the extreme right.

Pathetic and just really bad for news and media concentration.

The prime and 7 merger wouldā€™ve been better than this shit.

Thatā€™s simply not correct

It would make no sense for News Corp to do that to an established brand (an example of that is how Sky NZ didnā€™t change Primeā€™s name after they took over that channel).

In regards to the reference to News Corpā€™s reported plans for 10 News, suggesting the same would happen if they merge with Seven ignores the circumstances of both channels. 10 had (and even more so now) a ā€˜thinā€™ news division that focuses on one bulletin a day so it was more ā€˜ripeā€™ to being integrated with Sky News. By contrast, Seven has a well-established and significant news division so it would make more sense for News Corp journalists to be integrated into that (like how Seven News Perth and The West Australian work hand-in-hand)

Exactly, with Amazon and Facebook these days, arguments about media concentration are frankly outdated.

Sky News on Seven, anyone?

Maybe they could replace Home & Away with Sky News on Seven at Seven.

Straight after an hour of news. Why?

I was just making a joke.

But seriously IF News and Seven enter a partnership or a merger, what are the chances of Sky News being broadcast a multichannel?

There are alot of other tenants at 52 Martin Place, including government, lawyers, accountants.

Also Martin Place isnā€™t where 7 conducts business meetings. Anything like that would be done at Redfern.
