Anyone know how long Seven has left on the lease for their Martin Place digs?

Can’t be cheap to operate from a prestigious inner city location and they don’t really use the location to its full potential like they used to. Wouldn’t mind betting they won’t renew and will move somewhere a lot cheaper when it’s up. Perhaps Eveleigh, if they decide to keep it?

Seven were said to be paying $1 million per year for their Martin Place office in 2003, according to the SMH.

Current price for a whole high rise level in 52 Martin Place appears to be around $1.5 million per year.

If the magazine sale happens and that all moves in with Bauer, then Seven would have unused space at Eveleigh.

I am not sure if Martin Place is not used to its full potential given it houses Seven’s news department and that’s where Sunrise, the Sydney bulletins, The Latest, The Morning Show and The Daily Edition are filmed. Also its central location means it’s easier to cover business news, NSW politics news and court hearings (NSW Parliament House, government departments, and courts are nearby) rather than spending time on traffic travelling from Eveleigh to the CBD.

Seven News would still have an office in the NSW Parliament House building, unless they have dispensed with that?

The advantage of being in the middle of the city is that a lot of guests can get to it easily, especially those that are staying at a city hotel. A bit more of a challenge at Eveleigh.

Which has also increased the live availability of the sport well beyond what FTA can realistically offer as well as a record monetary return. Crowds are (reportedly) still decent and ratings are good compared to other sports - I don’t think it’s as bad as your hyperbolic statement that it’s “nearly destroyed”, but that wouldn’t fit with your narrative

Yes, the FTA component of the deal could be better - that’s always the case in these shared rights deals.

lol narrative?

Yes and I;m sure that Archer Capital is happy to see their investment in Supercars be nearly zero.

BCM was sold off last year, yes?

They moved in August 2004, so a 20 year lease puts it at another 4 years.

Seven don’t own BCM they rent it per m2

There are already other companies inside BCM renting space that seven don’t use.

Which I imagine is now, sadly, a lot.

Pretty much! If all departments were lined up, you’d have enough for maybe 3 and a half floors?
It’s atleast half in footprint to what it was a few years back

Actual quote from James Warburton, talking up Seven’s ratings:

Could you imagine the hole Seven would be in if the other stations were more competitive in Perth and Adelaide? It would be a chasm.

When working in agency sales I regularly took ratings from the “other side” with a grain of salt. You look at them, you look at the data but then you remember that a massive majority of people live on the eastern side of the Great Dividing Range and that’s where my focus really stayed.

A Seven spokesperson told TV Tonight it was slip of the tongue.

Or a brain fade.

Those seem to be more virulent at Seven than the Corona Virus is in China given the mess the place is in.

Shares have plummeted to 20 cents, starting at 26 cents on Monday.

Lowest share price ever recorded. Channel 9 accounts probably having a betting competition in their office to see what share price Seven falls to each week.

I imagine a lot of staff at Seven’s Docklands facility would’ve never or hardly crossed paths in the past, as half was “BCM” operations and technically national rather than related with Melbourne/HSV-7 operations?

Staff like broadcast, network presentation, scheduling, technical, IT, etc? Most of these now gone, in Sydney NPC or offshore.
