I wonder if SWM launched 7travel after seeing how successful nine.com.au’s 9Elsewhere website has been?

There is an existing Yahoo7 travel website. Wonder if Seven are already preparing for life without Yahoo.

Seven Network expands international presence in content production
Seven invests in award-winning UK production company Slim Film + Television

Seven today confirmed it had secured a major shareholding in Slim, the company behind critically acclaimed drama Legacy (BBC) and award-winning comedy The Art of Foley and founded by multi-award winning producer Simon Crawford Collins (Spooks, Ashes to Ashes, Hustle).

The new venture underlines Seven’s commitment to increasing its international presence in the production of television programmes and new formats. Seven’s investment in Slim sees Seven move into the creation and production of drama series and comedies for the British and international markets and adds to Seven’s growing international presence with 7 Wonder and 7 Beyond.

Slim was founded by Simon Crawford Collins in 2011 to produce high-end, ambitious scripted content for global audiences. Simon and his team have since produced highly acclaimed and award-winning programmes and are currently developing major scripted projects for the majority of UK broadcasters as well as a number of international networks such as AMC. The new partnership with Seven is part of Slim’s strategy to further develop and expand its slate of international projects and to work with the best talent on ambitious, high-end productions.

Simon Crawford Collins, Founder and Managing Director of Slim Film + Television, said: “Slim is embarking on an exciting new phase in its growth and, after considering a number of offers, we believe that Seven are the perfect creative partners to support us in our future ambitions. They are not only an exceptionally inspirational group, market leaders in their territory and have massive global aspirations; they also have boundless energy and a great sense of fun. Together we will be looking to further expand internationally and pursue a number of high-end international co-production opportunities that are already in development as well as fully exploit our incredibly exciting slate of programming to produce innovative and highly successful programming for global audiences.”

Seven West Media’s head of Red Live events division, Dustin Lockett, is joining BBC Worldwide as commercial director, and will oversee both live events for BBC Worldwide in Australia as well as
working on consumer products, home entertainment and brand licensing. He will start on his new role in November.

Not sure if this is new, but I just saw a promotional video for tv advertising on Ch7 which aired during the commercial break and was presented by Kochie.

Seems like since Network TEN’s Intensify sales campaign (the first of this type of advertising I’ve personally seen) NEC followed with their recent ‘TV never sleeps’ effort and now this ‘inside7’ promo from Seven West Media.

Peter Zaveck (CEO of Pacific Magazines) is resigning from Seven West Media, effective from 30th of this month.

Returning to Melbourne.

I posted the news on Pacific Magazines thread a few days ago. He will be working for Herald and Weekly Times.

Seven West Media welcomes regulatory approval for the acquisition of Perth Now and The Sunday Times

Seven West Media today welcomed regulatory approval from the ACCC for Seven West Media to acquire Perth Now and The Sunday Times from News Corporation, and will now proceed to finalise negotiations.

Commenting on the ACCC green light, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Seven West Media, Tim Worner, said: “We are genuinely excited about this acquisition. We will have great assets which undoubtedly build on our commitment to delivering the very best news coverage and content to the people of Western Australia.

“The Sunday Times and Perth Now are great brands. There is a strong bond between them and the people of Western Australia. The Sunday Times has a unique heritage and we will nurture both The Sunday Times and Perth Now for the benefit of all our readers.

“We wish to acknowledge the great work of News Corporation in growing and building these businesses and are mindful that it was Rupert Murdoch’s second acquisition and dear to his heart. We will be worthy custodians.

“Seven West Media is the natural home of these assets as we further build their publishing and digital presence. We look forward to finalising the agreement and ensuring a positive and growing future for The Sunday Times and Perth Now as they continue to be part of the fabric of Western Australia.

“We are about building our media business and ensuring we continue to deliver strong local and relevant content to our audiences. The underlying imperative in this agreement was to place our company in a stronger position to compete with the increasing presence of global content and platform businesses in our market. For us, this is a once in a company lifetime opportunity and that is the way we are going to approach it,” Mr Worner said.

Seven West Media expects the investment to be earnings accretive in its first year and to increase shareholder value for the group.

Commenting, the Chief Executive Officer of Seven West Media (WA), Chris Wharton, said: “The acquisition of Perth Now and The Sunday Times is a positive for our audiences and our company. Our integration of Channel Seven Perth, The West and our online businesses into the one media centre is delivering significant results. Perth Now and The Sunday Times deliver audiences complementary to those we are delivering with The West. This agreement will expand our audiences and further enhance the presence of Perth Now and The Sunday Times in our market.”

As part of the agreement, Seven West Media and News Corporation will also build on a news content sharing agreement for The West Australian with News’ daily brands in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Seven West Media and News Corporation are also joint venture partners in the Community Newspaper Group in Western Australia.

The agreement delivers significant opportunities for Seven West Media’s development in the Western Australian market with Perth Now joining the company’s existing digital platforms. The acquisition will see the company expanding its publishing and printing from six days to seven days a week and will deliver improvements in scale benefits and print cost synergies for Seven West Media’s businesses in Western Australia.

Seven West Media has named The West Australian deputy editor and head of digital content for SWM WA, Michael Beach, as the new editor of The Sunday Times. Beach will take up the role once SWM’s acquisition of The Sunday Times is complete. SWM has also appointed Seven Perth sales director Damien Hampson as revenue director, Seven West Media WA, effective immediately.

Great interview with chairman Kerry Stokes AC on 3AW’s Neil Mitchell morning program today.

I love it when he said “…they wouldn’t want to sue me, because they know what assets I have…”

What’s the story there?

I can’t quite remember the context, but when I heard him say that I giggled

Seven West Media has signed a content supply deal with Newzulu, allowing SWM to crowd-source videos and other content and stream from reporters’ phones. The deal covers Seven’s TV, newspapers, magazines and related digital platforms. Under the terms of the deal SWM will have the right to use Newzulu’s international crowd-sourced content in its newspapers, TV network and magazines and websites on a fee basis, while Newzulu will have the worldwide rights outside Australia to distribute both SWM’s professionally created and user-generated library on a revenue share basis.
