final shot was a Ten logo being flushed down a loo
yes they did. Shepparton also carried the expanded SCN Local News from Bendigo from 1993-94 along with Ballarat. Albury took Ten Eyewitness News from Sydney on one hour delay. Gippsland continued with its own SCN Local News until they axed the local bulletins in 1994.
damn i wish caps existed of that lol
its on one of the videos
Thats brilliant - well done to the staff for getting that on air … says it all really.
Not just a full packaged story (instead of only shoved at the end of the bulletin) but the first headline in the opening.
Imagine if something like that had gone to air during the 2020 cuts for 10 News Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.

Considering SCA own the 7, 9 and 10 affiliates in the SA market - couldn’t they air the local news on all 3 Stations to maximize revenue and make it as economically viable as possible?
5.30pm on the local 7 station and then 6pm on the 9 and 10 station
Why spend money on something you’re not required to?
SCAs potential viewer numbers are only 5000 more to WIN’s in SA, and there has been no local news there for 10 years now. The non-mandatory 2 minute noodle updates went a couple of years ago now also. SCA just doing what WIN did years ago sadly!
I honestly don’t think airing on the 3 main channels would make any difference in terms of viability
Yeah, costs seem to be the main issue and airing it on different channels will probably just add more costs in having to reschedule other programs to fit that in eg move The Chase to 4.30 and redoing promos etc.
You’d think so. Give people who miss it on one channel a chance to catch-up. Even do a late night replay.
If they were going to air on all three channels, they could have kept the name of Southern Cross News with a generic branding which would be similar to some of the US duopolies like in Hawaii with Hawaii News Now.
A joint SCA/WIN Regional SA bulletin with bureaus in Mt Gambier, Riverland, Port Pirie, Broken Hill and Port Lincoln would do ok because all costs are halved but then again no licence condition saying they have to.
And therein lies the problem.
But would probably ultimately p1$$ all the viewers off and please nobody as Mt Gambier viewers don’t want to see news about Port Pirie and Broken Hill, and vice versa. I think WIN had enough trouble convincing people to watch a joint Riverland/Mt Gambier news.
Probably but there are many examples of TV local news in Australia where news from other regions is in their bulletins. Someone in Kalgoorlie has to tolerate stories from Bunbury and Geraldton in their GWN bulletin while I’m sure people in Lismore love hearing about Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital in their NBN News edition.
Difference being that has been the case for decades in those examples, viewers are more fickle these days and there is less tolerance for these kind of things.
There are very few regional bulletins that aren’t using filler from other markets - its not ideal, but its preferable over not having a bulletin
Similiar story for radio too, especially for SCA.
