Seven News (Regional Vic/NSW/ACT/WA) (2015-Feb 2025)

Not for the noodle updates, no.

As for the bulletins, Nick presents sport for the Central West, Border, Riverina and Tamworth bulletins. He and Maddie present the sport for the Coast bulletin.

Pip Waller or Stephen Murphy usually fill-in on the sport reports if Nick is away

So he does news and sport, but if he’s away the bring someone in just to do sport?

That’s pretty much correct. Either Pip Waller (the main presenter for the noodle updates in Canberra, Newcastle/Central Coast, Wollongong and Regional Victoria) or Stephen Murphy (based in Albury)

would it warrant having an actual sports presenter for these bulletins?

I suppose

Hey everyone,
I though I would share some news with you and let you know that I have found a journalist that is keen to mentor and network with me I would like to announce that Nick Hose is going to be my mentor whilst I complete my degree. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from Nick and him to teach me about the industry. I also spoke to him this morning on the phone and will be meeting up with him for a coffee soon and he is going to organise for me to visit the 7 Regional office/studio and see a news bulletin presented. So I’m putting this out here if you have any questions that you would like me to ask Nick regarding 7 regional etc. please reply to this post of send them to me in an email at u1156988@umail.usq.edu.au

A post was merged into an existing topic: A Voice to Parliament - News Coverage

Reckon we’ll ever see the VIC regional news and weather updates move to Melbourne. Like wouldn’t it make sense to have Jane Bunn do local weather updates for across the state?

What is stopping Seven from relaying it’s Albury/Border local news bulletin into Shepparton? Within the next year I think we will see separate 7 news local bulletins for Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland. With Seven that would be feasible because:
(1) The existing 7 news Border bulletin is miles ahead of WIN presentation and coverage wise
(2) 7 news local in areas that already have it all have astronomical ratings (look at Regional TAM if you don’t agree). It is like TNT in Tasmania and TVW in Perth.
(3) Seven is a “default” channel in regional Victoria these days, the 7 news Melbourne relay is the top rating programme there. This stretches back to the days before aggregation when all Victorian regional stations took its news from HSV.

If 7 news Newcastle “The Voice of Newcastle and the Hunter” was launched it will give NBN a run for its money!

That depends if Seven is ready to branch out Albury/Border to a Victorian presentation facility. Plus, we haven’t seen Seven establishing a “Seven Queensland” type of division for NSW and Victoria, since they kept the way they used to under Prime Media. Don’t forget the changing landscape of consuming news, with others prefering social media and digital media more than ever.

Based on?

Would definitely be nice for them to do, but we’ve heard very little indicating so.

I know Shepparton not warrant a separate bulletin, I would love a Shepparton/Bendigo Seven News Bulletin and I think Bendigo and Shepparton news will be a good fit. . I think Albury is too close to Wagga and I think it should be stay as it is

I can’t see 7 reintroducing a news bulletin for Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra or regional Victoria anytime soon People in those areas seem happy enough with 7 news from Sydney and Melbourne and there’s no reason to change anytime soon.

I know up where I am, Some people are not happy and still not happy after WIn news restructure. I think the regional victoria news, Ballarat and the western district, Shepparton/bendigo and Gippsland with the North West being in albury/ wagga wagga.

There’s no money to be made though, Seven Victoria is already miles ahead courtesy of the footy coverage. They don’t need to lift another finger.

Ten is hot on their heels with no local bulletins, merely updates presented from Tasmania.

Does anyone know if Seven have started news updates for Midura?

It should have been a requirement of the Seven takeover of Prime - as it was a trigger event in that market for an obligation to actually produce local content for the market.
