It was a Canberra update that aired
And again on Monday⦠Also Canberraās update.
Iām wondering if they have a few problems with inserting the right updates at the moment. Canberra has got a lot of Sydney updates recently at 7-7:30pm, only occasionally will we get the local one.
Newcastle update inserted into Canberra during Home and Away tonight. Wrongly inserted updates from other markets seem to air more often than the actual local updates as of late.
So Iām a bit out of the loop at the moment when it comes to regional news, but are the former areas covered by Southern Cross news updates (eg Darwin, Central, Spencer Gulf) now done in-house by Seven News (eg out of their Canberra base)?
Darwin and Spencer Gulf updates are now done out of Canberra. Not sure about Central Australia
Any clips of any of these?
@Abesty has some on YouTube. Hereās a couple I could find quickly.
Currently in Griffith NSW. Saw a 7News Local promo (with Nick, Madeleine and Daniel Gibson) and EPG on motel TV confirms 7News Riverina at 6pm.
I had always thought Griffith not being part of southern NSW TV market meant it got the 6pm 7 Sydney bulletin?
Griffith/MIA previously received a dirty feed of 7 Sydney. I reckon this change happed at the same time that WIN started airing the GTS/BKN version of Channel 7 into the South East SA market.
Didnāt businesses in Griffith originally complain when WIN started to air the Riverina feed, because they felt that was extra competition from Wagga businesses? Compared to ads originating from Sydney?
Dear Seven.
Thereās a future 7 News Newcastle sports presenter sitting there.
Not Corey, Yasmin.
Think about it. ![]()

After seeing NBN News the last few nights, I feel Seven is missing a big opportunity here. Seven could produce an edited version of the North Coast edition with stories from Northern Rivers being replaced with a few Newcastle and Hunter based stories. I canāt see that Sevens 6pm rating would go through the floor or roof, but at least the relevance would be on par with the NBN product
With NBN News no longer an hourly local/national/international bulletin and the declining quality of WIN News, it is the perfect opportunity for Seven to have a local news bulletin for Newcastle followed by the already existing 6.30 national bulletin. Same for Canberra, Wollongong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland. Shepparton can take an extended 7 news Border bulletin (why didnāt they do this when SCA had the Nine affiliation and its Border/North East bulletin?), and Mildura with Bendigo.
With respect to the Victorian markets - given Seven wipes the floor with Nine (WIN) at 6pm while investing about $0 in local news there⦠why bother?
Not going to happen until the government grows a pair over local news quotas.
Yep. Iām sure the bean counters have looked at the costs of establishing more bulletins versus the potential extra revenue which might be forthcoming, and determined the status quo is sufficient.
On another topic, kudos to Seven Borderās Lily OāBrien for a top-notch job in her multiple live crosses to the Sydney 6pm bulletin on Monday night re: the Helen Haines attack. Iām not sure if Sevenās Border bulletin covered the story on Monday as it was very late-breaking and the North Coast bulletin was still live, but the fact the Border bulletin wasnāt uploaded to 7Plus gives me hope that perhaps they did manage to squeeze in a late amendment to the pre-recorded bulletin to cover the story, which was then covered more extensively in the Melbourne bulletin which followed it.
That reminds me⦠this seems to be a long standing Victorian news viewing habit.. even back in May 1994 (around the time SCN News was axed), Prime was still No. 1 for news in Bendigo even against VIC & SCN News at 6pm.
(from the āBendigo Advertiserā).
Is this because of the AFL or something else? Seems odd when Local News does a lot better in NSW & QLD.
Victorians are weird.
Prime TV/Prime7/Seven are number one in regional Victoria because:
(1) its legacy, Seven National News was relayed to all regional Victorian stations until the Fairfax takeover of HSV7 in 1987 when they switched to Nine News. A year later AMV4 returned to Seven Nightly News while the Six Network stations stayed with Nine. Not sure about TV8.
(2) AFL
(3) in the days before aggregation a very good chunk of regional programme schedules were from Seven, as they were the highest rating eg. A Country Practice.
You genuinely believe that TV schedules from almost 40 years ago are the reason that people today choose to watch Seven??
