My guess, especially like Amelia she also has young children, so current arrangement might work better for her (just a guess though, not saying that this is 100% the reason). Plus she has a permanent newsreading gig (5pm weekends), so might also not want to give that up as well.
In other news, Smitho is back on deck this weekend
Had quite the early career at Seven. Also reported on the first Anzac Day AFL clash in 1995, Port Arthur in 1996 and was in New York City for Lleyton Hewittâs post-US Open win celebrations when the planes struck the Twin Towers, going on to spend the next 17 years in LA and win several awards, before anchoring HSV News.
Iâm not from Adelaide so I wouldnât know for sure. But isnât Gertie currently just filling in for Elspeth Hussy til she returns from maternity leave? Or is Elspeth only doing 3 days on 4pm news?
Iâm surprised in these smaller states we even have weather presenters. With the focus on costs, obviously a bit one can rip out by eliminating this part, I really donât think ratings will move.
Weather is largely moving digital, I think the weather part of the bulletin is overdone a bit these days. The days of turning on the news to check the weather are long gone.
Capital city commercial news bulletins are highly competitive markets and the highest rating programs nightly.
If Seven were to cut a weather presenter at 6pm then Nine would boast that Seven doesnât have a full news team and so arenât serving the city and state with dedicated weather reports from a weather presenter, which viewers keenly watch in order to know their local area.
The weather presenter also adds another element to the bulletin as theyâre usually on location which makes the bulletin feel even more local and part of the fabric of the city. Viewers want a team they know, like, trust and rely on.
Sacking a weather presenter would diminish the bulletin and isnât worth the brand damage.
Originally it was Chris Reason (who transitioned from his role as Sunday Sunrise host), before he returned to full-time reporting on Seven News Sydney in mid-2005.
I noticed Seven Sydneyâs Nick Markham (who often voices early morning reports for Early News and Sunrise going back a decade) was filing the nightly reports on the Australian Open and Winter Olympics recently, alongside another reporter whoâs name escapes me.
While Seven Melbourne often inserted a local reporter.
