Seven News Presenters and Reporters

Hopeless. That’s a bit harsh.

I’ve lost count on how many times a presenter/reporter mispronounces a suburbs/town name. I don’t call them hopeless.

I agree - I will admit that her presentation isn’t the best, however, I am a believer that if you give someone a decent period of time, they will improve.

Isn’t she originally from Perth?

Noticed what looked like an early 2000s Seven News emergency/fire jacket on reporter Paul Dowsley at the Hume Freeway closure at Longwood tonight during his live-cross and filed piece.

According to her profile on the 9 Gold Coast website she is.

It is strange someone from Perth would make that mistake since we (WA people that is) are all acutely aware of the differences between how we say place names vs the east coast, but it was just that, a mistake. It happens. Not something worthy of name calling.

Huge news with Rick & Sue transitioning to fewer days. Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun will present Sunday - Wednesday with Rick & Sue presenting Thursday - Saturday.

There was a similar arrangement Sydney had for Ian Ross in his final year (2009) - he presented Sundays to Wednesdays with Chris Bath doing Thursdays to Saturdays.

Before that, between 2006-08, Roscoe was doing Mondays-Thursdays with Bath doing Fridays-Sundays.

To the present, and I think this is a smart move by TVW to give Tim/Angela an expanded on-air presence, but I also think they should try and make a play for Tracy Vo (similar to how Seven poached Ian Ross and Sharyn Ghidella from Nine in the noughties), though I fear that could come to the detriment of an improving STW.

So The Australian article wasn’t quite right. But I find it VERY interesting that they are doing the lower rating nights of the week?! I get fewer days, but I think that is a brave change by 7. The pay cut must be very significant.

Here is the official media release:

Sensible move by Seven. Can only imagine how much money this will save.

I predict they’ll be down to two nights by the end of the year.

Why the heck are they doing this?!

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Perth ratings and neither of them have indicated they want to retire.

Stupid move by Seven Perth.

They’ll call it a day next year. Rick and Sue has read the news for a record 40 years and the time is right to scale back duties

That’s good, because they’re not retiring.

“The time is right” should be when they choose to do that

Sorry I meant scale back duties.

In any case the people of Perth will be outraged and the ratings will suffer…

I have a feeling the gap will be super close by the end of the year. Nine might have a chance.

I think 7 have got this right.
It needed to be a phased departure not a retirement.
This is the right call for all parties imho - I get the argument you could have Rick and Susannah do Sun-Tues though.

What suggestion is there that they havn’t choosen to do this? Sounds like more they wanted to retire and 7 wanted to have longer to transition to it.

Yes they have one brain that decided they both wanted to scale back together. Wasn’t there a rumour a few years ago that they aren’t even as pally as is made out? I don’t think there is any question this is driven by Seven.

In the West Australian interview above:

“It’s a sad and happy occasion in many ways because I’m sad that I’m scaling down, but I realised that it’s time to do it…I know I’m speaking for Rick as well when I say we both love our jobs.” Carr said.

But my comment was replying to another user who suggested just because they have been reading for 40 yrs it is time to retire. They should be entitled to retire whenever they please, as is the nature of the word.
