Kate Massey has flown from Melbourne to Brisbane to report on the Lions’ preparations for the AFL Grand Final.
Apparently for a price.
According to The Australian’s Media Diary, Matt Carmichael was not actually made redundant last week. Instead, critically, his contract was up and it was simply not renewed – meaning he wasn’t entitled to any redundancy payout.
Daily Telegraph
at Seven, it is believed Michael Usher’s contract is up and he is negotiating his next move.As is news anchor Mark Ferguson, who is said to have signed a one-year extension contract in September 2024.
His co-anchor Ange Cox is said to be contracted to Seven for another year.
“There’s no way Seven are going to get rid of Fergo, and he is quite happy being a co-anchor as the pressure is off,” another insider said.
Michael Usher back for Nine News?
I’d still get rid of Ang and leave Ferguson solo putting Ang in was stupid and unnecessary. Leave Ang for spotlight until her contract lapses. Or replace Mel on sport.
I think Ange has been great for Fergo.
Ratings wise it hasn’t made a huge difference. But Ange is a breath of fresh air and has loosened Mark up a fair bit.
7 would be mad to let him go. He’s the strongest news presenter around, but extremely versatile, and has become synonymous with 7.
According to Annette Sharp in her weekly column, sources claim that Matt Carmichael’s juniors had difficulties on occasion with his management style, with a number having pulled the pin on careers at Seven and moving on as a result.
She also said that his relationships with a number of Seven colleagues have also come under a cloud, with it “lost on no one in the room” that Matt and Mel McLaughlin were sitting apart at a dinner for Seven presenters.
It’s strange to hear this for people outside of Sydney.
Yes he’s been there a long time, but I recall for years on MS people described him as plain/boring in his delivery, and a bit awkward when it came to non-scripted stuff.
Ange has been around at 7 for a long time as well, longer than Fergo if I’m not mistaken…
Since at least 2001, when she was a reporter on Seven News in Brisbane.
I thought he was referring to Musher.
Max Futcher doing the voiceover for tonight’s 6pm Qld bulletin. Is it just him presenting from Melbourne with Samantha in studio, or will it be Sarah for GF day?
Saturday 27 September -
Karina Carvalho presenting Melbourne bulletin in the studio with Mike Amor and Rebecca Maddern at the MCG.
Max in Melbourne; Sam in studio.
With multiple presenters and reporters, some from other stations, at the MCG for the Grand Final, they’re using different positions.
I believe Mike Amor was in the standard TV studio at the media centre, also where they call from and have their central wing cameras, it’s a wide room. They used to have the half time and post game desk here with Hamish until a few years ago.
I think Max Futcher was coming from their new secondary glass encased studio, looking out into the stands, Fox Sports have another one like this, built following the disability controversy a few years ago that went viral and the AFL/MCG subsequently banned the broadcasters from using those spaces in the stands.
While their current telecast desk is on the ground, like pre match. I suspect they’ll have a smaller standing one in the winner’s rooms soon for continued post coverage until around 7pm on 7mate (according to EPG)
Max ended up presenting sport. Alissa was embedded in the Lions rooms where there was a lot of noise.
According to The Australian’s Media Diary, a senior female reporter from the Melbourne newsroom has been suspended by Seven who cited mental health concerns, just days after she initiated a class-action lawsuit against Seven, accusing them of underpaying staff.
The journalist, who is not named but is said to have won both Quill and Walkley awards, was notified that she has been placed on enforced leave after exhibiting what the network claimed was ‘troubling behaviour’ during a recent shift.
Not that we should guess, but I don’t actually think I could name any Senior Female Reporters from Melbourne who have, or about to go on Maternity Leave, or just joined from Nine?
