Seven News Presenters and Reporters

I know a lot are questioning the duel presenting on weekends, but I think it’s safe to say her presence and likeable profile in Melbourne is there to improve the 7 news brand.

Expect to see her present (fill in) on other bulletins locally and nationally.

Think long term guys. Like Loxley she is going to probably be in this job for the next 20 years plus.

What happens when Mitch and Amor one/both retire. Need someone with more authority to go up against Alicia in the long run. Blake and Jac are not the answer. She has authority. Watch the below. I actually think she is a better anchor than Loxley.

What is with that end shot at the end of the promo, hideous.

Bec is pretty well liked I think, but she’s sort of the Erin Molan of Melbourne where she can get quite a few nasty comments - (lots of commentary still about her time on The Footy Show).

Mostly negative comments on the Herald Sun article I’ve seen:

Seriously come on… they’re herald Sun readers.

Interesting comparison would be how she rated back in 2006 when she took over the 4.30 News from David Johnson. She did very well to hold numbers. Often keeping that bulletin in the 400k at the time. Then the bulletin was moved to Sydeny (by management) with Mike Amor leading to ratings dropping. This happened again in 2013 with Mel Doyle taking over.

Sadly that’s not unusual for any female in the media. It’s definitely not exclusive to Maddern.

Exactly and I think they’ll likely retire one after another considering they’re similar in age and both don’t seem like Hitch who can keep going as long as he likes.

Yeah, you would have thought they would have had an end shot with Amor and Madden together on the set which they could use rather than file footage of both of them.

Completely agree. I’d love someone to explain the logic of it.

However, you can see how Bec has potential to value-add to the Melbourne team. Angela Cox wasn’t recognisable to the Sydney market, so that change particularly made no sense to me.

If Bec wants to do Afternoon News, she will. Also, that would better justify the cost of her salary.

Mike Amor is 50 according to the interwebs. Lots of life left in him yet. Peter Mitchell is in his early 60s. Not really that similar in age.

It almost made it like they wanted Cox to do weekends but couldn’t be ballsy enough to get rid of Mark for Musher. But then again Seven Sydney is never known for logic considering this is the same network that shafted Chris Bath and Mel Doyle.

I had wondered whether perhaps Bec was disappointed Nine never offered her news reading roles, the fact she’s returned to her roots here and seems over the moon, may suggest sport entertainment, reality shows and sports broadcasting wasn’t quite for her?

I recall an interview or article when she first joined Nine and Footy Show, asking her about news and she said “not just now, down the track is the plan or maybe” or something along those lines, which of course never eventuated.

I think we’d all agree here on MS, that news presenting is her forte and where she excels, really.

Is there such a thing as a positive comment in the Herald Sun comments section? Regardless of the article, the reader comments sections are so predictable full of nasty triggered hateful people.

It’s important to note though, that we don’t know what her salary is. She maybe getting less than what she was on at nine. She might be happy just working the two days and spending time with her young family during the week.

She might not be the expensive overhead that we’re all thinking.

I wasn’t complaining about her salary…. just saying that, from Seven’s financial perspective, they are going to get as much out of her as they can. So, if she wants to do 6pm, 4pm and election coverage, they will accommodate for her (not Jacqui).

Agree, she is probably on less than what she was at 9 when she was doing multiple programs.

I’m also under no illusion that the mission here in the future is for her to anchor on her own. Don’t push Amor now to limit the damage and obvious press execution. Do that bit later on. Sometimes it’s better to just wait it out and it will just fall into place.

Not to sound harsh, but did Mike Amor even set out to present a bulletin? I mean yes more exposure and pay maybe, but he was was he not still US Bureau Chief when he got the call after Jen Keyte left (however yes I realise he’d been coming to Melbourne the previous summer to fill-in).

If what you say did happen RE: Bec replaced Mitch (which you’d have to think is still a very long time away), Mike would A) still have to he there B) mightve found another role for him (return to foreign bureau chief or go to Sydney or an exec role). Who knows.

It’s alright… I didn’t think you were. :+1:

The comments about her yelling relate to Ninja where she didn’t understand that the mic would still pick up her comments clearly without her having to yell over the crowd.

I was disappointed when she left seven originally so I’m glad she’s back. She wasn’t into the overly dramatic ‘pregnant pauses’ that some of the others do continuously. Jacqui Felgate is a good example, but so many others think…the way to add drama to a story is… to pause…continuously.
