Odd given Paul was reporting on location about the QLD rain earlier in the bulletin.

Georgie used to present on 9 News Darwin right? Shame about the pregnant pauses after every sentence tonight then.

Sam Mac made a brief mention of ex-Seven News Sydney weather presenter David Brown on his first live cross on Sunrise this morning.

He was with a girl guides group in Sydney and asked the group if he deserves a badge for reading the weather forecast well, and after they put their hands up, Sam said “David Brown may disagree, but that’s okay!”.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t surprise me if Seven quietly axe David if they can’t find a role for him next year (I’m pretty sure a TV Tonight article said he’s not returning to Sydney?). He could do the Morning News weather out of the Melbourne studios, but then it could be argued that Tony Auden or Jane Bunn could easily do it on top of their other duties during the day.

I could be wrong, but personally it wouldn’t overly surprise me if David Brown has made his final on-air appearance for the Seven Network. If Brownie does return on air in some capacity, I’m expecting it to be a relatively low profile position (such as on the Morning News) until contract expiration time when his association with the network will likely end.

And how many more times do you think people will come on here to guess and speculate about David Brown, as if they know something about it, when in fact they have no idea?

“You’ve got to be super careful here.”
“A stern warning is for kids who come down and play in this to be super aware.”
“It’s one of those things. You need to stay away.”

Great example.

Fact: Commercial TV news reporters will continue to make idiots of themselves in PTCs/live crosses on severe weather conditions until someone gets seriously injured or (heaven forbid) killed.

Bit silly of Paul to be honest.

He also mentioned there’s volcanic rock under there, so hopefully Paul makes it home safe and well tonight!

If it was Mike Dalton you’d be rolling on the floor in fits of laughter. It’s just a bit of seafoam, he’s clearly fine.

Mike Dalton generally knows his limits and shows restraint when the content justifies it though, unlike Paul Burt or Tim Bailey.

Also Paul knows those beaches like the back of his hand. He knows what hes doing.

It’s isn’t necessarily about his competence, it’s a matter of presenting responsible conduct to viewers. Not saying that something is a danger and should be avoided and then doing it.

I doubt he’ll stop; it’s become his trade mark to be in dangerous situations during severe weather and viewers (and the producer) have come to expect it.

This was one of his most extreme crosses during the middle of Cyclone Debbie where Nat’s started the cross with “you’re outside again Paul?” and Mark asks Paul to consider coming inside to answer the next question.

the network can barely afford to pay the electricity bill - extra weather presenters doing stuff like that won’t happen IMO
