I can see why Nine News Melbourne have been beating Seven News Melbourne lately. I find Bec Maddern cold and unwelcoming reading the news. There’s no question Bec is talented - she’s just in the wrong job. Much more suited to a hosting role as opposed to newsreading.

I completely understand what you’re saying. Surprisingly I found her much more warm before She left 7 in 2016, since her return She has come across very cold and bored to be there tbh.

It’s sad because Kendall one of the best on air talents BTQ have, I find her miles better then Sharyn or Katrina. I guess Sam would be the likely successor of 4pm duties.

Big loss. Perhaps she felt “underappreciated” at 4pm and would have liked to be given some reporting or fill-in reading opportunities at 6pm or perhaps 5pm on weekends. More like Samantha Heathwood (who seems to be underutilised since coming from Nine).

Her contract wasn’t renewed. She is leaving the network.
I feel like that she leveraged this to get the national 5pm news. If the timing had been better, Samantha would have been given the weekend news on Nine.

It’s not Bec… there is a bigger picture at play here. Seven currently have major issues in the Melbourne market. Even Hot Seat beat The Chase.
