Why? Is there a need for a OB today? Just seems a complete waste of resources and time if you ask me. Let me guess opening sentence “Welcome, we’re coming to you from ground zero…”?

I thought the same thing. Very sensationalist. Especially seeing as last weeks example was more serious than (by all accounts) this one is.

Because it looks good to the viewer apparently.

Because it looks better than their outdated set :joy:

At least I wasn’t the only one who thought this OB was pointless.

Just as useless as some of these OBs is the standing presentation. Can’t see the benefit especially when used for nothing more than to introduce a regular news item.

No simulcast of 7News in Brisbane on 96.5 any more it seems, but on 97.3 after the 4pm and 5pm news and weather updates, the announcer then said “here’s Sharyn Ghidella and Max Futcher from 7News” before playing the promo for the 6pm news.

Melbourne is trying to look at ways to boost its ratings/audience but an OB wasn’t really needed.

“I quite like that though? At least the screen is one designed to be presented from, unlike Melbourne.
Let’s stand on this awkward angle on a curved screen where you can’t even see the image properly, where it wasn’t designed to be presented from that area “

It’s always good to see an anchor capable of doing an OB and reporting live in the field. Mark Ferguson very rarely does so.

This just proves that Seven doesn’t seem to read this thread (at least at the moment)…

Not when it’s unnecessary.

While he may not be the best anchor at Seven, you seem to just be swiping shots at him?

Fergo did a number of bulletins on-location around 2013-16. Very few since then, the most recent may have been for the Tathra bushfires in March 2018.

While I’ve been critical of his news presenting style and questioning whether he’s the best person to be the main competitor to Peter Overton (and that will continue for as long as Fergo is reading Seven’s main newsreader for Sydney), at the same time it has to be stressed that I actually don’t have anything personal against Mark Ferguson.

When was the last time Overton left the studio and reported from the field?

Possibly for the Liberal Leadership Crisis in August 2018?

Understand that, but that wasn’t the point I was trying to make.

I think it’s good to see a news anchor out in the field. I think it ads a new level of localism

Maybe Melbourne are going some upgrades for for their set? Highly doubt it but who knows?
