Seven News Content and Appearance

A different view from Seven according to Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne:

On Saturday Seven was claiming the comedy injection into its Friday news to be a success.“Last night, 7News’ audience was up week on week nationally and across the capital cities between 6.55pm and 7pm,” a spokesperson said.

Good sign! Now to improve the other 55 minutes :joy:

Give it a few months though and see if it stays that way… I highly doubt people would give two shits about a comedy segment.

And here’s the reason they ran with that topic:

Yeah, for all the pearl-clutching and hyperbolic (which is the norm when it comes to nearly everything to do with Seven on this forum) statements about the segment, it was fine.

The issue is more the format on two fronts. Firstly, Humphries’ strength is doing satirical segments of the type he did for The Feed and 7.30 (i.e., taking a story/issue that has dominated the headlines and using that as the basis for a sketch). If the idea of the segment is having someone at the desk throwing out one-liners about the news, he’s the wrong guy for it. Secondly, a satirical segment would be better suited to air say on the Thursday night edition of The Latest so it can be couched as ‘alternate’ view of the weeks events rather than tacking it at the end of the main 6pm bulletin on Friday nights - especially if there’s not going to be separation between the bulletin and the segment.

There’s a perfectly reasonable and rational explanation…

It should be more like this classic newscast:

They have a reputation? Seven news is just a tele version of NW magazine?

That’s nonsense.

Seven News has won multiple Walkley awards for its journalism and is trusted and relied upon by millions of Australians.

It’s not Three News.

this is why we used to have Media Spy Awards… for comedy gold like this.

Agree.
If we’re bagging the quality of 7News, well then be fair, and let’s criticise all the networks.
9 News Brisbane anyone? :wastebasket::wastebasket::wastebasket:
Don’t need to say any more than that.

QTQ is absolute rubbish, but they seem to revel in it. It’s very strange.

And then there’s the pathetic quality of WIN news up the Qld coast. Amateur (half) hour.
10 regional news updates are just embarrassing… like high school students presenting them.
No disrespect meant there, I know they have limited resources and budgets, but the reality is they are woeful.
7 News Qld runs rings around its competition.

I mean it’s true… Logie awards too. Like you can give them flack but you can’t deny that they have won many awards and are the news service of choice for many Australians.

Blooper just then on a reopen at 12pm - “This is Seven News, with Angie Asimus”

I love both QTQ and BTQ news - not only do you have to endure their advertorials but you have to endure promo’s for upcoming advertorials. Presumably the promo’s are an upsell for the basic advertorial.

I feel particularly sorry for the journo’s that have to make the advertorials - bet they don’t get any of the commission and their advertorial work is useless to put on their show reel.
