Re: the weather graphics.
I noticed in the tour of the studio last night that some of the weather graphics are not horizontal on the screen when you look straight on.
Must be to counteract the angle, so it appears horizontal at home.
How much use does it really have though? It’s literally a desk in front of a curved screen. Not a lot they can do with it.
Some have been repurposed for it it yes.
I suspect they have kept a lot of the visuals similar to the previous set so as to appear as a evolution for the previous and not upset viewers who can be averse to change (no matter how good). So similar backdrop, colours etc.
Credit to the original video cappers (i’ve only taken screenshots). Unsure what year the desk was first introduced (maybe 2002?). But here it is over the years: (2002; 2004; 2008; 2010; 2016; 2020; 2022)
Amazing how much of a difference a fresh coat of paint made.
Agreed right? Although i do think the top of the desk has been replaced
Why say ‘good afternoon’ twice?
All that effort and they just dump it on the studio floor. The desk should be on a riser as a bare minimum.
It feels like parts of this upgrade weren’t thought out properly - the weather graphics look terrible, especially this “trickery” they’re doing on the screens, plus the quality somehow looks worse than 9 News Queensland.
It’s an odd angle to present the weather from too. Needs to be more front-on to the screen. Perhaps try the RHS screen?
You can also tell they’ve been given hand-me-downs.
Iceworks Design. The same company who updated the previous set and the Gold Coast set. Each city seems to be using different designers.
So they had nothing to do with the Sydney Set ?
They are Brisbane based. There’s no mention of the Sydney set on their Facebook, despite posting a lot of content.
New set aside
Do we know if there were any other tech upgrades to the studio
Much to love; but much to be improved.
Early days with heaps of adjustments. They’ll get there.
Yeah like most big panels now they are made up of individual smaller panels. I would say some of the Martin place panels were reused and repurposed for this set. I’m pretty sure the wall one on the right is the one that was behind the couch on sunrise.
Interesting how they’ve managed to make the set look so different over the years mostly just with paint and changes to the graphics but no real other changes.
Doesn’t look like it’s been replaced. Definitely repainted and the custom glass added, though.
