Perhaps it’s still coming? Or they may save it until the new year…

5pm news is coming from Queensland with Samantha Heathwood but no sign of the new set.

Bulletin is controlled from Sydney. They just take the one feed unfortunately.

I think the only gripe I have with Seven’s new Brisbane set is just that the desk is too small, it should have been longer on each side which would have given it a better perspective, used the area better and hidden things like the cables running along the back, bin, storage etc when they use that side shot.

It looks perfectly sized here:

It’s just those really wide angles that are off.

If only they could extend the set a bit further to the left/right. That dark space on the side is quite depressing to look at.

They just need to alter the angles they’re using to hide it a bit more.
I remember it was the same with the old Sydney set in 2016. The wideshots looked hideous with all the black space.

Yeah cause it ends up looking just like a wall plonked there. Even if they just have a light box behind those angles, doesn’t need to be anything fancy, even a basic panel like Melbourne uses would work.

Afternoon news

Cross to weather: the angled wipe looked good. Samantha looking straight ahead for intro then a glance towards Paul Burt

Opener was breaking news background.

That’s a fantastic wideshot - these are the types of angles they should be using, not those extremely bare wide ones.

Much better than the ones they use at 6pm where the desk sits isolated in the middle of the floor. This was very interesting and the dual live backgrounds worked surprisingly well.

Very odd opening standing presentation on 7 News Melbourne tonight.

They’ve done this before. Quite odd indeed.

They are doing lots of ‘reading 2 stories in a row per reader’ lately too.

I don’t know why that is so funny to me!

Not this again. Looks horrible.

If they need to throw to a reporter, use the right side of the screen (above the desk) while they’re both standing on the left.

This looks stupid.

It’s like Mike is a robot in the background and waiting for his animatronic queue

It looks even worse with the desk out of place and not on the markings on the floor where it used to be.
