Who has the exclusive?

There’s been a story regarding one mother’s ordeal with regards to Ukraine.
This afternoon Nine aired the story, labelling it “First on Nine News”. However, they didn’t use the label for the nightly news.

In comparison, Seven showed it when Peter was showing viewers the upcoming stories at 6pm (in 4pm news). They then advertised it as an exclusive for the nightly news.

Seven Queensland tonight with flooding coverage - multiple locations covered with small captions as the footage switched. Many more than shown in the caps.

An example of the ‘tougher stance’ on Palaszczuk in Qld. Taking a poll of 1000 people published in The Courier Mail and turning it into a story, tonight they set it up with “Queensland’s integrity crisis is biting, with the Premier’s personal popularity tumbling as a direct result.” When dissecting the poll, it was revealed:

  • 10% view her more favourably since the allegations were made public
  • 11% unaware of the integrity scandal
  • 33% viewed her less favourably
  • 46% haven’t changed their opinion of her

So, given no citation of any pre-integrity vs now data to deduce a “tumbling”, actually the lead is that the majority remained unchanged in how they viewed the Premier despite the integrity crisis “biting”.

It’s a shame because Marlina’s usually very good.

A portion of the 46% may not have thought she had integrity to begin with. So the headline still is she has lost favour with a third of the population.

Agree though there should have been more detail or context of the polling.

Exactly… some of that 46% could have hated her before and still hate her now. So, it wouldn’t be ‘positive spin’ but reporting the ‘facts’. The poll was seemingly added in amongst the CCC revelations (a story in itself) and evidently lacked the analysis required. Not great journalism.

The fact that the majority of those polled had not changed their opinion despite the allegations and increased media pressure and coverage is the surprising part for me. THAT was the story.

I preferred the white. Also, felt unnatural (?) to look up in the top RHS… so I usually missed them.
