Seven News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

A lot of this I think has to do with Nine revamping its late-afternoon schedule and/or refreshing its news brand (new graphics, specifically), in response to losing more weeks in Sydney than usual (last year Nine News lost twelve weeks in that market). Not sure about Brissy numbers last year though.

Nine has also been the more dominant network in Brisbane and Sydney where rugby league is the more predominant sport; that’s one theory I have, but I could be wrong.

Also, changes to the presenting line-up at Seven News in both markets don’t always translate into immediate success anytime - as Nine News experienced when they revamped their weeknight lineups in both markets in 2009.

In Perth, Rick and Sue are nearing the end and it’s inevitable viewer habits will change, but Seven have been so dominant in the west for so long, so who knows…

I would say it’s more to do with the axing and changing of staff/presenters in both Brisbane and Sydney. Plus an afternoon game show is not helping in both markets.

Nine is finally making gains in Perth due to a constant long term strategy that’s now paying off.

Because we can’t pay the people to do it for us as AstroTash told our news director to save our finances .

Have noticed 7Brisbane attempting a bit more casual chat/banter, and not always just at the end of the bulletin. Tonight it included Tony Auden and Shane Webcke.

Seven News won in Brisbane last night, the first win for a long time and the first with Sarah reading. The total people TV margin was 2,000. Seems that Nine’s ratings have taken a fall while Seven’s are largely unchanged at this stage. To me it seems there is some correlation with the election of the LNP government with Nine a fairly partisan supporter and running strong on crime. Are viewers now not feeling the need to tune in for their daily dose of outrage?

Don’t know why you’d bother because it’s just cringey… and the over the top laughing:

I went and scrolled through some of the Sydney bulletins from last week, and I noticed that they have given up on the awkward banter which is good to see.

Ouch. That was extremely uncomfortable.

Wasn’t it reported not long ago that former veteran and multi-award winning US Bureau Chief (now HSV co-anchor) Mike Amor had filed pieces for Seven for the US Election? I’d guess that’s also why Angela Cox (former long-time Correspondent under Amor) is featured, her Spotlight and current co-presenting roles aside.

Amor did a six part documentary on Trump’s first presidency. He was also in the US earlier this year for a family holiday.
