Afternoon Update - one from Brisbane and one broadcast just to the Gold Coast relay stations of BTQ - identical except for the opener and background. Sometimes there is a difference with a GC component. I thought today would have been a good opportunity to change the weather component as the area barely makes it onto the map. Does demonstrate the value of the GC market that the network goes to the extra effort of having separate news updates.

Why?

Floods? Ukraine?
Allows for a full hour of flood coverage at 4 maybe?
Just to get more live news on the screen on a busy news day?

I agree - the biggest news in Queensland is the rainfall, so a bulletin that has a lot of Ukraine coverage can free up the 4pm local news to focus on flooding.

7Qld’s lead story is the floods. Crosses to Brisbane city, Lockyer Valley, Redcliffe, Ipswich and Sunshine Coast in the first ten minutes. 9 opens with the Ukraine situation and even a protest rally in the city.
