In a few weeks time from late May, for more than a month straight (AFL R11 - R15 and possibly beyond but R16> is TBA by the AFL), there’ll be no games in Sydney or Brisbane on the main channel on Saturday nights (which we’ve tended to see more often than not in one of those markets over the last few years), with no Swans or Lions matches scheduled in that timeslot, however there are a couple of Gold Coast Suns matches but the AFL official broadcast guide shows them as being on 7mate. Meaning in those markets plus Perth, Seven will have 5 weeks in a row to program what should be higher or more consistent ratings, like regularly seen pre-COVID, maybe even at 7pm if Border is dropped, with that Seven News promotion and lead-in, be it premiere or blockbuster movies or new show acquisitions. @JohnsonTV

However, Nine’s very recent HP marathon (although a franchise heavily played over 20 years) is not an encouraging sign, but could also play in Seven’s favour where there’ll still be HP each of these weeks presumably including Fantastic Beasts, if they continue to pull just mid-100k metro or even lower, a chance for Seven to strike with their own content, either (e.g.) a new overseas drama or mini-series or more reliable classics/blockbusters movie raters (Pretty Woman/Die Hard/JP/The Mummy etc etc) or premieres.

10, ABC and SBS could also benefit here if Nine continues to sink with this timeslot where I could see their main channel share dangerously close to just 10% to close their weeks, especially if Indiana Jones does well once again (starting this Saturday on 10 and no doubt encores) and ABC’s usual first run UK dramas pop up eventually. If this occured and SBS did say The Godfather (where they’d done well), could Channel 9 be at risk of coming 4th or last!?

And yes, I’ve needlessly overthought this very specific timeslot/programming, as usual :joy:

there is, however, a Friday night match between the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans at the Gabba in round 14 (Friday 16 June). As it is right now, the match will be on 7mate in those respective markets, though I sense there could be a change to the main channel closer to the date of the match.

For the record, the NRL match that evening is between the North Queensland Cowboys and Penrith Panthers, with both sides to be gutted by Origin commitments (the second Origin is at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday 21 June).

Wouldn’t it be better to swap these around? Spider-Verse is having a new sequel so good to show it, but why after 10pm? It’s a family movie which TDAT isn’t so I feel like they should be swapped IMO.

The classification provided is PGavl according to the classification office for its release, so I would agree.

Seven air Roland Emmerich’s disaster thrillers ID/TDAT/2012 every year without fail, like their staples, almost like a gag from a programmer… And they always rate. Maybe they’re not confident of Spidey, even though they’re airing them all, some for the first time.

It’s not a gag if they deliver ratings. That’s why they keep screening.

Seven showed a repeat ep of The Rookie at 2pm yesterday and from next week will encore The Rookie: Feds on Tuesday afternoons following the Monday night broadcast.

According to this article shows that 7 air like 911, The Rookie & Good Doctor won’t air in the US until Jan 2024.

This isn’t a huge problem for 7 since they are only now airing season 5 of the Rookie but they did air new eps of 911 & the Good Doctor in October/November

And won’t this help the turn off even more…
Imagine sitting down to ‘celebrity’ game shows @ 8pm…after watching ‘celebritys’ dance and then as a special event on Sunday nights watching Disney movies that we have all watched 10 years ago for 3 hrs

People will disconnect with the dramas and not return after finding other alternative entertainment elsewhere

Maybe or it might drive more people to streaming. There will surely be 100s of shows people wont have seen from the last couple years that havent been on FTA

Speculating at this stage… but I wonder what will take Blow Up timeslots next week?

I cant see Seven keeping it there.
