According to the MCG website, each day’s play starts at 2.30pm AEDT.

According to ESPNCricinfo’s report:

But this will be the first non-Ashes full overseas men’s Test tour shown on free-to-air TV in Australia since Mark Taylor’s team played in South Africa back in 1997, when Seven also had the rights.

For the WTC they sent JB over & had him be joined by Ponting, Langer & Hayden who were doing the ICC broadcast, I wonder if they would either send someone over or have an Aus studio (like 9 with Ashes) for pre match & post match stuff - I think unlikely because it’s just a normal overseas tour

Didn’t Nine also showed the 1997/98 tour of India?

This is so great for cricket fans.

May have just been highlights on 9. Sounds like Hookes is commentating which suggests Fox was showing the live action?

Tonight’s Big Bash Sydney derby at the SCG looks in strife with bad weather forecast, “very high chance of rain or showers” with wild winds and radar already showing a lot of the city very wet.

I hope Seven have backup programmes ready to go.

Covers are still on and its windy.

Main race is just after 7pm AEDT

Seven News had a full report with Theo Doropoulous on their new cricket rights as a headline after 6pm tonight…

That’s all very nice, but not sure how news worthy it is.

Seemed like an old Seven ego moment, self congratulatory LOL. Slow news day, at least in Melbourne?

Newsworthy? Not headline worthy but I’d bet my bottom dollar 9 and 10 would’ve run with it prominently too if they’d stumped up for it.

Newsworthiness aside, it makes complete sense to promote it heavily now given how decently seven news is doing nationally atm, how close to the start of the series we are, and how prominent cricket is in people’s minds with the recent conclusion of a great test series and the BBL and women’s summer still going.

It is not news.

A network media release? Of course. Which they did.

A story in the nightly news? No.

It doesn’t look very good when networks essentially crow about themselves, let alone in such a medium as a news bulletin, IMO.

Quite possibly.

There are promos and ads for that, as well as in-program during the BBL cricket.

It’s all just a very Seven thing to do I reckon, that ego that was reportedly changed when Warburton came back, hasn’t all evaporated from the Leckie era I dare say. When they started winning things in a big way in the 2000s, it went to their head, peaking with the MKR period.

I reckon there’s a good chance it gets dumped to 7plus

It’s not the first time and it definitely won’t be the last time a network features a sports rights acquisition in their news bulletin.

A report masqueraded as a promotion for either a show or a sports property is far more egregious IMO.

AT least they got some play in before rain.

Yeah maybe first sessions on 7mate, but probably a 7plus exclusive. Maybe if there’s rain at the W they might fill with it (given they seem not to do any match coverage during W breaks - just features and highlights)

Rain delay filler on as usual, so why isn’t Seven showing Race 4 at Gold Coast?
