Seven Cricket Coverage

Seven trying to keep the interest going into 6pm - light delay unfortunate timing.

Going to news at 6pm in Sydney and Melbourne - back up programming in other markets.

Justin Langer’s bleeding heart style of commentary getting a bit too much this morning. He’s way too earnest. Lighten up mate. You don’t need to tear-up. It’s still just a game of cricket.

At least the Julios over on FOX treat the coverage with a bit more levity.

Something curious, I’ve been intrigued by the federal government’s NBN being a major sponsor of Seven’s test cricket and possibly CA/tests themselves.

Also noticed NBN took out a 1/3 front page ad and full back page ad in yesterday’s Sunday Herald Sun, in a foreign language, I believe in Hindi (possibly targeting Indian readers due to the Test).

Any possible reasons why, especially the Indian thing? Just seems a rather left of field advertiser.

It is intriguing. The NBN has a $30m media spend and I guess the focus of its marketing and advertising is to address the slide in demand as retailers ramp up the sales pitch on cheaper, faster 5G offerings. This all comes down to the big 7+ push with it’s ‘what about free’. Linking sports streaming to NBN.

As for the Indians, yeah I’d imagine they’ve always been seen as more as 4G/5G mobile data users, so NBN probably sees an untapped market there.

Just guessing.

Yes, NBN has published full page ads in Hindi in News Corp papers in the past few weeks. I am still trying to get a translation of the messages from the ad.

They’re trying not to lose ground to the mobile telcos and Starlink - the program to move FTTN/HFC customers to FTTP is starting to reach some fairly significant numbers in terms of percentage capable of converting too that they want to encourage people to take advantage of.

Currently on the Gold Coast. 7 Gold Coast (6) appears to be on an hour delay with this scrolling text over the scoreboard. Cricket is live on 7 Brisbane (70). I always thought it was live across the board.

Probably easier to keep the delayed AEDT feed and direct peope to the live feed instead of having to schedule a different program for the Gold Coast when returning to the delayed feed.

7 Gold Coast is on LCN 7 and it is live. It looks like Prime on LCN 6 is delayed (as per the rest of the schedule).

Seven had a good run this test - just couldn’t get the 5th day last up to 6pm. I guess its The Chase at 5.30pm?

Presentations and interviews should get them to 6pm.

Yes - that’s what they are doing.

Chase at 5pm I’d say.

Isa Guha not looking very happy to be there for some reason, after both players before Cummins have angry, sheepish glares to the left. Could just be nerves, unprepared or concentrating on Fox/Seven OB director.

Wondered if her unfortunate publicised gaffe the other week where she was forced to apologise might’ve caused some awkwardness.

The players on the mic during the chase of the BBL game is interesting.

7 has David Warner on mic - who is signed with Fox cricket while Fox has Sam Billings who has commentated with 7 this season.

Billings one isn’t that big deal since players commentate for both networks, e.g Chris Green.

But I would of thought Fox would be the one having Warner on mic given he is employed by them and not like other BBL players who commentate for both 7 & Fox

Yes it’s odd isn’t it.

I’m thinking it works at two levels. CA as part of its deal with broadcasters has a clause to make players available, particularly high profile ones. Players themselves can negotiate deals with individual networks. But the two can’t be mutually exclusive.

I think it could be due to the fact that 7 are the host broadcaster and hence the world feed. So CA & BBL would want Warner to be on the mic for at least 1 game on the world feed

Immediately after the final drinks break in the test match, before Lyon bowled the 78th over, there was a bit of a delay and when players asked ‘what’s the hold up’ the umpire made a gesture showing tv/broadcast.

After that, the mic picked up some players saying “its ch7 fk off” “Fox would never do that” & I think Khawaja saying “shut up Rachael”

Both 7 & Fox commentators were also confused about what the hold up was so it wasn’t either broadcast :joy:
