There’s a few other names not included on that slide:

Agree - it’s a far better lineup than the one which the Sunday Telegraph published a few months ago

Great to see Bruce getting involved in the coverage!

Some further details in this article

There will be three ball-by-ball callers for Tests against India and Sri Lanka this summer, with Mitchell joining veteran broadcaster Tim Lane and former Channel Nine commentator James Brayshaw.

Brayshaw and Mel McLaughlin will dual host the coverage in what is also a first in Australian cricket.

Channel Seven has also announced a number of other former players to bolster their coverage, with Jason Gillespie, Simon Katich, Greg Blewett and Brad Hodge all coming on board.

Gillespie will work as an expert at the Adelaide Test, Katich will come on in Melbourne and Sydney, while Hodge will be used as a T20 specialist during the Big Bash.

Meanwhile, doyen broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will join the coverage and conduct interviews during the lunch breaks of the Melbourne and Sydney Tests.

This has got me very excited. Will be very refreshing and a good change for cricket. Hopefully they split the commentators and hosts so that there is a team for BBL and a team for Internationals.

I think Tim Lane has not called cricket on TV since the ABC covered test cricket in regional Australia in the 1980s and early 1990s. I reckon Lane will split his time between Seven and Macquarie Radio.
Great signings for Seven with Mitchell, Sthalekar, Hodge, Gillespie, Katich, Blewett etc.
Here is CA’s take on the team:

That’s my big worry with this new arrangement in that Seven and/or Fox’s coverage of the BBL might look/feel the same as how they’ll cover the international matches. One of the things which made Ten’s BBL coverage so successful was that it was a different style of coverage

Welcome back to television Tim Lane :slightly_smiling_face:

My favourite commentator, superb! If you remember him from 774ABC many years ago or 3AW footy/cricket these days, top notch. Last seen on Ten’s AFL Grand Final day in 2011.

NB/ Who tipped this. You’re welcome

Thankfully the police inquiry into his disappearance can now be closed

I reckon Stephen Quarterman is still a possibility?

Also notable omission of Hamish McLachlan (at this stage), also thank God no Brian Taylor from Seven’s AFL as many (though I’m sure jokingly) rumored.

Mark Howard probably the biggest question mark? Also Roz Kelly?

At least they aren’t as bad as that bunch on Channel 9.

I’m confused on the details (or lack there of) with Seven’s BBL coverage? Maybe this is what’s to be announced later on?

I would’ve thought Mel was the ideal host for prime-time BBL, as she did at Ten? But article suggests otherwise. Or maybe I read it wrong and it’ll be Brayshaw hosting tests and Mel hosting BBL and days where they’re both airing hence the word “duel” (but probably not)?

Not that I would have chose Seven over Fox Sports but there’s no way I’m listening to Tim Lane or Alison Mitchell tell me where the ball has been hit. It’s TV not radio! They never played so offer little insight.

At least I haven’t heard Andy Maher’s name.

Looks like Barham is taking his approach to BBL commentary to Test Cricket with rotating teams of one caller/host next to two expert commentators. This is a big difference from Nine where they only had expert commentators and no ball-by-by callers with just one host (Mark Nicholas).

It’ll be interesting to see what approach Fox take.

It’s also a surprise they’re not using Bruce more and no BT for BBL?

Yes, another notable omission at this stage.

I wonder how much freedom Barham was given by Seven and whether he (long shot here) doesn’t want Hamish and at the same time higher Seven management don’t want Maher?

Besides, Hamish already does too much at Seven and Andy is on Front Bar.

I really would love to see Quarters have a stint at cricket calling though, would be great to see Seven or Foxtel pick him up.

There are plenty of ex-cricketers in that list to provide insight. Elite level players often make really crap ball by ball commentators.

Could the duel thing be similar to what Nine did for a few years during tests with Mark Nicholas and Brayshaw whereby Nicholas was the main presenter but Brayshaw presented some segments during the pre-match?
