Seven AFL Coverage (2016-24 seasons)

Jason did not call the VFL this afternoon because it takes 1.5 hours to fly from Melbourne to Sydney and 30 minutes to drive from Sydney Airport to Spotless Stadium.

Do you know who did?

Probably. Eddie McGuire is also off Fox Footy this weekend. Both Eddie and Luke have the next week off their radio shows, so they may be on holidays from their tv commitments too.

Darce has been on holidays all week, wasn’t on Talking Footy on Monday night (Brian Taylor filled-in as host, no joke)

BT said at the start of talking footy on Monday that Luke was on holidays and that he would be hosting the show for the next 3 weeks.

As a result Basil Zempilas hosted The Kick last night

Jason Bennett is a decent commentator, better than Basil Zempilas, maybe Jason should do Saturday Night Footy with Luke Darcy & Basil should call the VFL instead. :stuck_out_tongue:

Melb vs. Syd on Friday night (albeit fairly one-sided), actually rated higher than last weeks nail biter (Syd vs. Ess).

Also delivering a 2017 high in Sydney on 7mate!

I assume with no Cameron Ling last night, he’s on expert comments for today’s game?

Perhaps Andrew Welsh on the boundary?

Hamish + BT + Leigh Matthews as normal?

Ling wasn’t on last night as he was hosting Game Day with Hamish on holidays.

Bruce filling in for Hamish today on the AFL coverage.

Why is everybody seems to be on holidays? although it means better commentary for a few weeks.

Because it’s radio ratings break so those who have daily radio commitments are on holidays e.g. Eddie McGuire, Luke Darcy and Hamish Mclachlan

Ling’s on radio Sundays.

Basil did gws game and did sunrise today
Don’t understand why ling couldn’t have done the same and host game day!!!

Didn’t realise, as Hamish hosted pre-game / post-game on Friday night.

NB/
I notice in recent times, Seven Sport are becoming very relaxed with who’s the actual “host” for a game.

We know Bruce is on Friday.

But other games are very hard to tell now, with all commentators being involved somehow with different segments, which I guess is a good approach.

But for example, on Saturdays the super has said Basil is “host” (when you’d think Darce would be) & Sundays has had Hamish as “host” (when you think BT would be)?

Game Day is in Melbourne whereas Sunrise is in Sydney…

Basil was announced as host of Saturday night’s earlier this year. I’d also expect Hamish would be host over BT on any game they do together.

So the fact that BT is a veteran caller and Hamish is not (and Darce being on Saturday night since day dot in 2012 when Basil hasn’t been) means nothing?

That’s what I was getting at.

Fair call

Not really. They have a host / lead commentator and a regular commentator. Hamish is a host across a number of sports so seems logical that he is the host in most cases.
