The timing of the Fremantle v Sydney game also worked perfectly for Seven in both WA (following the news) & NSW (following BHAG).
Do the usually only show the losing teams press conference during the post-game?
Came back from Geelong’s to then go to Armchair Experts.
They’ve dropped the HD recently I think?
Often they do, the losing coach goes first and then the winning coach goes after the broadcast has ended. Also drives views to 7Plus for the full upload.
I assume news was just 30mins? Since the game started at 6:30pm local.
I reckon tonight will be Nicholson & Bennett. Today is James Brayshaw’s birthday.
It is Nicholson and Bennett.
Might we see this double-header and second game timeslot being used more often now? They could even still do one game but make the start 8:30pm if Swans or Lions on main channel for their protected species in BH&G.
Though they’d want to be careful and could be a strong reason for not doing at least double-headers, as you wouldn’t want it diluted or viewers especially Melbourne alienated, as Friday nights have been the AFL and indeed Seven’s jewel in the crown for some 17+ years now.
Would only be possible if it was a Perth game, due to the time difference.
Adelaide games used to start at 8:10pm ACST (therefore allowing a live broadcast into Melbourne prior to 2012, when matches were otherwise mandated to be delayed by one hour), but since the move to Adelaide Oval, Friday night matches now start at either 7:10pm or 7:20pm local time (or 7:40pm in the case of Gather Round).
Could do it in Brisbane in maybe the first 2 rounds before daylight sayings happens?
7:30-50pm local time, so if it’s Brisbane vs Sydney, it’s 8:30-50pm for Sydney.
Looks like Seven Adelaide is again doing local pre-game coverage, at least for Sunday Twilight games.
Was a generic Seven AFL intro, then 7News weekend sport presenter Bruce A, and sports reporter Andrew Hayes previewed the game, before handing over to Fox Footy’s coverage. Was done form the old Seven News desk (one used in 2021), and a green screen background.
UPDATE: There was also local quarter time break coverage, as well as half time coverage including highlights from the Collingwood and Eagles game.
Do we ever get any caps of these local pres elements?
Bit hard since I can only cap online streams, and Seven can’t show AFL on 7plus.
Being in Melbourne I’d just like to see some. Thanks for the update though. Do they wrap up the game normally?
They did when they did local coverage prior to 2021, however, I think post-game is from Fox Footy these days. Prior to 2021, full match was on Seven, with news shown on half-time. Now they shift the match to 7Mate at 6pm on the dot for the news. Since both the local AFL segments and the news come from the same studio (and control room), they wouldn’t be able to do both at the same time.
No, it only works for games on the West Coast and there is a fear of having overlapping games as it could split the audience
Just prior to third quarter time, Seven moved the match to 7Mate for South Aussie with Cosi, and Seven News. There was no local third quarter time coverage, and presumably there will be no local post-game coverage.
Sunday 3.20pm matches return to Seven this weekend. Interestingly, all four matches Seven produce this weekend are at interstate locations outside of Victoria.
Thurs Night: Suns v Cats: TIO Darwin
Fri Night: Swans v Blues: SCG
Sat Night: Lions v Tigers: Gabba
Sun Arvo: Power v Hawks: Adelaide Oval
Perhaps Thursday’s match in Darwin will be called out of a studio in Melbourne?
Doubt it, it’ll be covered as part of the tourism money that the game is called locally.
Not really Seven related, but interesting that Darwin can attract a big name VIC team but Tasmania can’t?
$$$$ ?
