You do know the AFL usually schedules additional games if ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday or a Sunday? Thursday Night is also now going to be a regular match so of course they are going to have it in addition to the ANZAC game.
I mean, it’s not a big of a crime as scheduling a match before 12pm on ANZAC Day.
The Lions and Giants being on 7 in no way diminishes the Bombers v Pies experience earlier in the day. It should add to it and ANZAC day in general if anything tbh, much more so than the launch of the Farmer Wants a Wife or whatever reality series 7 could launch instead.
And in 2015 a match between St Kilda and Carlton began at 1:10pm NZ time (11:10am AEST).
To my knowledge, the earliest an AFL match has started in Australia was when a 2014 match between the Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats at the Gabba began at 12:10pm local time (1:10pm in Syd/Melb).
I just saw a promo on 7 Regional VIC about a “Double Header Event” tomorrow night from 7pm, but i could only see one game being played (STK v WB). Have I missed something?
I suspect that promo is being played out a week too early, Seven does have a doubleheader next Thursday on Anzac Day (the traditional afternoon game with Essendon and Collingwood plus GWS and Brisbane in the evening).
Also saw it Adelaide. Although wasn’t paying full attention, however, it could be a localised promo for possibly a double header where they take a local team match (from Fox), then the Seven match.
BT said golfer Bubba Watson would be a special guest during Seven’s coverage of Port Adelaide v St Kilda next Friday night. Bubba will be taking part in the LIV golf tournament at Adelaide next week.
Next week’s commentary roster will be interesting with Seven producing five matches + the added obstacle of the Bulldogs being involved in Saturday night’s game. Perhaps Basil might be brought in for Saturday’s game in the west?
I’d say Alister is highly likely given he normally calls Thursday night games.
In that case, I reckon he’d be paired with Luke Darcy given it would be unusual for Nicholson and Bennett (the two less senior commentators, for the want of a better term) to be on the same call together.
