SBS Sport

The VFL/AFL has been shown on all five networks, at least in Sydney. SBS had the VFL live on Saturday afternoon in Sydney in 1987, and as this excerpt from the SMH shows, SBS also had some NBL coverage.

Sunday arvos have been good lately for SBS with its sports related sports programs (aka - The Wolrd Game, The Bowls Show; The Cycling Show; to name a few, plus Speedweek and the various Cycling Highlights programs).

With the rights to the NBL to be shown every Sunday, it will be a more consistent schedule for the next few months. I’m hoping it does well, even if it is just in SBS Standards.

Good to see SBS adding basketball to their portfolio of sports right on top of football and cycling

Great, still no Chelsea matches on SBS.

To be honest, I thought SBS only showed the early Saturday night game

Some weeks SBS show the early Saturday kick off & other weeks they show a 3.00pm (UK time) match.

The on-screen graphics for SBS NBL coverage (scorebug, timeclock etc) are an absolute eyesore.

Same as the fox ones. Coverage produced by the NBL.

Upcoming EPL matches on SBS including Christmas / New Year period. Midweek matches will be shown on FTA for the first time. And yes, Chelsea features twice in this period.

SBS has announced it has secured FTA rights to two matches of the Wallabies’ Spring Tour of Europe, against France and England.

Today SBS announced that it has secured the exclusive free-to-air rights to two of the upcoming Wallabies matches from the 2016 Autumn Internationals rugby union series.
The first match will kick off on Sunday, 20 November at 6.50am (AEDT); with Australia going head-to head with France, live from the Stade de France in Paris. The second match will see Australia take on fierce rivals England, live from Twickenham Stadium, on Sunday, 4 December at 1.25am (AEDT). Both matches will be live, free and available in HD on SBS, as well as streamed live online via SBS On Demand.
So far the Autumn Internationals have showcased some thrilling rugby, with the Irish team breaking an 111 year drought to take out their very first win against the All Blacks, and the Wallabies claiming victory
in Cardiff, defeating the Welsh team 32-8.
The matches in Paris and London are the highlights of a tour that Australian Rugby hopes will finish with a second fabled grand slam of victories over the British Isles sides. The last time the Wallabies achieved this was in 1984.
SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp said: “SBS is pleased it can bring the very best of world rugby to Australians free-to-air. Globally, sport is recognised as a way to bring people and communities together – not to mention it is also very much a part of Australia’s DNA. These matches are a great addition to SBS’s already strong summer sporting line up - which includes the Premier league, A-League, and the NBL.”

Totally did not expect that. With BeIN Sports holding the rights, a lot of rugby fans will have missed out on live rugby without a subscription, until SBS comes on board.

UPDATE 28/11: apparently SBS also showed the match between Ireland and Australia yesterday morning with little notice. Must have been a last minute inclusion.

SBS has picked up the local national cycling events again. Joint with Foxtel; this was joint with nine/fox the last 3 years

It’s restricted to next month’s Cycling Australia Road Nationals Championships in Ballarat. Bay Cycling Classic, Tour Down Under and the Herald Sun Tour stay with Nine and Foxtel.
