Articles are out today saying that the French Open (tennis) will move from SBS to Channel 9 from next year, for a 3 year run. SBS had a good run of it.

With Barty winning last year, those ratings would have made it a good investment for SBS. but their other tennis grand slam( US Open) hasn’t seen any Aussies in the finals.

NBL lock in January return for 2020-21 season

WATCH every game of the 2020-21 NBL season LIVE via SBS On Demand.

The NBL has confirmed it will start the 2020-21 campaign in mid-January, with a full home-and-away season to be contested in front of crowds and the initial schedule to be announced by December 3.

Fans were able to attend two pre-season games between the Brisbane Bullets and the Adelaide 36ers on the weekend - their successful staging allowing officials to push ahead with tip-off plans.

“It’s our time and it’s great to be in a position to be able to return to playing basketball during what have been challenging times for everyone and when people need sport and entertainment in their lives,” NBL owner Larry Kestelman said.

The NBL season usually starts in October, after the conclusion of the AFL and NRL seasons, and had already been pushed back to December.

The NBL today announced the fixture for the first five rounds of 2020/21 season. The season opener will be between Melbourne United and South East Melbourne Phoenix on Sunday, January 10. A total of 39 games will be played over the first 37 days of the season. The New Zealand Breakers will initially be based in Melbourne and travel across Australia for matches, but hopes to return home once there is a travel bubble between Australia and NZ.
NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said the schedule would be announced in stages during the season and the NBL was still considering the option of using a hub for part of the season.

I liked him last season, so its good to see him back.

SBS will show daily highlights of the 2021 Dakar Rally from January 4 to 16 at 5.30pm. This month’s event in Saudi Arabia is the first to be covered under the new 10-year broadcast deal between SBS and Amaury Sports Organisation.

The start of the 2021 NBL season has been pushed back by five days to Friday, January 15 due to border closures caused by COVID-19 outbreaks in Sydney and Melbourne. The first match to be broadcast on SBS will be Adelaide 36ers v South East Melbourne Phoenix on January 16.

UPDATE 10/1: the NBL has since made further changes to the opening round, with matches to be played exclusively in SA and QLD. Brisbane’s opponent on January 16 (shown on SBS Viceland) is the Hawks.

UPDATE #2 13/1: the round 2 fixture was announced yesterday afternoon. Perth Wildcats and NZ Breakers will play their first game of the season.

Anyone else getting issues with the sound on SBS Viceland (or ESPN) during the NBL? Sounds very scratchy.

Apparently SBS has the rights to the girls World Cup? I would have liked to see it go to a bigger network

Would you call it the boys’ World Cup?

Also don’t believe everything you read on Wikipedia.

One with more HD channels?
One with national coverage?
One with more adverts?

You keep chosing this hill to die on and it boggles me frankly.

Pretty sure SBS’ current FIFA rights deal ends after the 2022 Qatar World Cup. As such, the 2023 Women’s World Cup would be the first major event under the next rights deal

SBS is a completely inappropriate network for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. They don’t have a long, rich history of covering soccer/football on Australian TV!

Of course I’m actually fine that our multicultural broadcaster has the rights.
