First time I’ve heard the acronym BCE used instead of BC. Had never heard of the term Before Common Era (BCE) replacing the term Before Christ (BC). So Anno Domini (AD) is being replaced by Common Era (CE).

So it’s BC and CE now.

First time I’ve heard the acronym BCE used instead of BC.

It was originally known as Before Christian Era. I think originally it was used because Before Christ was factually incorrect as scholars put the birth for Jesus before the year 1 (4 BCE?). So BCE removed that ambiguity. Then when the current calendar began to be used by countries with other religions, the name Before Current Era or Before Common Era started to be used.
