‘Save Our Voices’ Campaign

There’s no real benefit for Sky News long term if they can’t spread their propaganda, so they’d be wanting a similar arrangement with their own linear channel more than being a provider of local news to SCA.

it wouldn’t be “Sky News on 10” because SCA would want to have it in all their markets including on VAST, those that are aligned with Seven and those that have all three networks. Just like SBN is.

It’s their ideal demo. Pastoral National voters and travelling grey nomads.

Surely I can’t be the only one who actually hopes that Sky News content disappears from regional FTA entirely?

There’s alternative views and then there’s content which is potentially dangerous to Australian democracy. Much of SNA’s post-6pm output is increasingly lurching towards the latter category.

[citation needed]

Plenty of options to produce noodle updates as they did previously with a Ten affiliation.

IMO, SCA produces the best regional bulletin in Australia.

The best outcome is SCA just pay 10 to produce local news updates. Would be better than Sky continuing to have a regional presence.

I don’t agree.
WIN is better, as it is actually local. SCA is just a state bulletin.
And sometimes, “Local News” is National. SCA is less local than the actual Nine News.

I agree. WIN is a lot better then sca. WIN news may not always have local stories but it’s way better then sca so called local news and that’s WINS isn’t stateside like sca

I was referring to their Tasmania bulletin, but your point probably still stands.

Another ACM article pushing their owner’s “reform” agenda - I suppose we will see a few more of these with an election around the corner

Wait so does that mean Prime7 and Seven Regional Queensland will lose their local news?

Possibly, we don’t really know - it depends on whether the current model changes and what it changes to.

It’s possible but I strongly believe they should be doing local news of a decent quality as part of the requirements of keeping their licence. The current requirements are grossly inadequate. TV stations can produce and present local news far cheaper than they make it out what is possible. Noodle updates are not acceptable or adequate.

Really? I’m sure they would like to hear your thoughts.

Your definition of “decent quality” may differ from a TV Networks definition.

Even in the last century what someone like MTN Griffith was pumping out with their local news was totally different than CTC Canberra due to advertising spend and market size.

i would have thought if ACM brought prime you would see resources shared so possibly ACM digital and paper divisions would help prime broadcast news, just like 9 Journalists will some times do radio spots on 9 Radio, and special investigations between 60mins and the newspapers . Not to the same scale but maybe similar

WIN News Townsville and Prime7 News Wagga broadcasts found in breach of impartiality rules

WIN Television Qld Pty Ltd and Prime Television (Southern) Pty Ltd have been found in breach of impartiality rules for news reports about whether regional media is jeopardised by ‘outdated’ media laws.

Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) investigations have found both broadcasters in breach of the rules due to a ‘call to action’ to support the ‘Save Our Voices’ campaign advocating for law reform around regional media.

ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin said that while the role of regional media is a newsworthy topic, on this occasion WIN and Prime failed to meet the standards of impartiality required of news programs.

“Australian audiences should be able to rely on news programs for fair and impartial information so they can understand complex issues,” Ms O’Loughlin said.

“The issue is not the topic reported on but the fact that a news broadcast encouraged viewers to take action and visit an online petition in which the licensee had a direct interest.”

“As a result, the report went beyond providing sufficient information for viewers to make up their own minds about the issues presented to advocating for a particular policy response. The commercial interests of a broadcaster should not shape the way in which news stories are presented.”

The ACMA assessed impartiality by considering whether the program met the impartial news obligations in the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice 2015.

WIN and Prime have agreed to provide updated training to all news production, presenters and editorial staff about the impartiality Code rules and report to the ACMA following the training.
