Last night’s AFL Preliminary Final achieved the highest AFL rating of the year so far at well over 1.5 million. The game that saw Brisbane defeat Collingwood to progress to the Grand Final compared to the equivalent game last year that averaged 1.322 million (without 7Plus) and was 400k up on the previous Saturday’s night time final.

The twilight timeslot saw a 30-minute 7News at 8pm on the east coast rate 1.07m, up 40k on the previous Saturday. After the news came the movie Free Guy at just under 300k.

NRL Finals Footy Semi Final that saw the Sharks eliminate the minor premiers the Raiders had just over one million tuning in. That was up on the Saturday night finals game last year that averaged 821k.

Meanwhile, the World Athletics Championships was on 9Gem and Nine’s main channel at varying times depending on the market to just over 300k. Earlier, Nine News at 6pm was at 1.13 million to be the top news bulletin. The afternoon’s NRLW Women’s Premiership did well to get over 250k.

10’s sport alternative was The Dog House Australia, down 15k to 185k while Selling Houses Australia was steady with 243k.

ABC’s Beyond Paradise was the top scripted show of the day, steady on 369k while Midsomer Murders that followed had 282k.

SBS’s coverage of the World Athletics Championships on SBS Viceland averaged over 200k up 40k from the opening day last week.

Weekend Sunrise was close to 400k for an easy win over its competitors including Weekend Today that had 260k, down 20k week-on-week while Weekend Breakfast recorded its lowest rating of this survey.
