Satellite TV Observations

For the purposes of using with an STB, they’re off. Don’t be so arrogant. Seriously.

TBS is now uplinking to 12606H on IS-19 again. It seems the others haven’t been restored. I’m not sure they have the power capacity to be able to do so.

seriously… see the smiley face and realize its just fun remark!

It wasn’t just that one post. Anyway, moving on now…

Latest from TV Plus

  • 23/02/2024 11:48 AEDT – Our team has restored broadcast transmission to the Satellite. We have currently 25 channels on satellite for our viewers. We are working to restore more channels and they will come in due course. We will send customers SMS and letter informing them of the frequency changes as well has how to rescan channels. Customers will receive credits for service interruption. Information on the new frequency can be found here.

They’ve shifted to the Telstra frequency

Meanwhile, MySat seems to be directing people to their streaming service

Had my 1.8m pointed at IS19 and gee they have certainly jammed them into the transponder, they look pretty average quality wise even worse then before and there appears to be even more drop outs then before… Not the best situation really

There are reports of a mux that looks a lot like MySat’s popping up on Horizons 3e now too

The TBS mux was only half utilised, so there was room to add more channels.

So are they using a different satellite now?

I’ve tuned it in for my parents and they have most of the channels they had before. Some are missing but they have some others instead. ERT (national broadcaster), Sport Plus and Greek Cinema channels are missing but Mega, Star and Open Beyond are new.

After you scan for channels you have them listed as TV Plus Ch1, TV Plus Ch2 etc… TV Plus must be a competitor to My Sat. I had a quick look at their website but their packages are a bit confusing to figure out. Anyway, I’m assuming TV Plus have done some sort of deal with My Sat to make these available until there is a permanent solution.

TVPlus is using the TBS transponder on IS-19. MySat have moved to Asiasat 9. What you’re seeing with TVPlus is nothing to do with MySat. To keep getting MySat channels, you need to repoint the dish.

Currently on the Spirit Of Tasmania to Devonport.

Free to air TV here is VAST.

Wonder if/how the dish needs to stay in position to correctly point at the satellite as the ship moves between VIC and TAS?

Welcome to Tassie (in a few hours) - pity I’m currently in Sydney or else I could have popped down to say g’day!

Not sure specifically how the VAST works but I could probably find out as one of my friends is one of the IT managers for the company. I do know there’s been significant upgrades in recent years for IP infrastructure and WiFi/streaming on board however the TV’s have been VAST ones (and predecessors) since the inception of these ships back in the early 2000’s.

I found this article because I was curious too which has some methods.

TV Plus has just fired up on Eutelsat 172b, Maybe it will start to disappear from Intelsat 19 soon?

Looks like Intelsat 19 might be having another power failure, the SNR levels are all over the place tonight.

That will affect Nine’s DR feeds too on IS19?
