Sam Pang Tonight

But Good Cop Bad Cop is current, and Felix Cameron is in it - even if it is for a small role.

A star from Scrublands or NCIS Sydney might appear in one of the next 6 episodes of Sam Pang Tonight? You never know…

Not likely since it’s currently running on Nine.

Yeah, the first series from last year. lol

Would work better as a Graham Norton style of show I think.

Then people will criticise it for ripping off that show.

Aren’t all shows just a copy of other successful formats?

I’d rather they tweak it to be similar to what Norton’s show is (which isn’t exactly original in itself) then keep doing what they’re doing which isn’t that great.

Doesnt need to be Norton as such with all guests at once. But gradually add them.

Like go

Seg 1: Monologue
Seg 2: Add comedian (Dave/Kitty)
Seg 3: Add big guest (Jack/Felix)
Seg 4: Add novelty guest (doctor ep 1 was good, a regular citizen so to speak who made the news)
Seg 5: A game/quiz with all 3
Seg 6: Wheel of Segments, but make it better and actually random.

The talent stays around and it gets gradually more fun. That would be a much slicker slow IMO.

yeah he could have had Felix or Kitty stay around to spin the wheel of segments, for example. Although it seems the gag is that the wheel is rigged and it’s always going to be someone getting pushed in to a Christmas tree every week, which is going to get old fast. It seemed like he was padding / filling time introducing it this week.

I am also a bit worried about that. I would really love to see Maggie Beer’s beers segment for a change.

Don’t hold your breath.

I’d rather see a structure like:
Segment 1: Monologue followed by introductions of guest announcer and ‘House Band’ , ‘House Band’ plays as Sam transitions to desk.

Segment 2: Desk piece – VT, topical satirical bit(s).

Segment 3: Guest 1 interview begins.

Segment 4: Guest 1 interview concludes, Guest 2 interview begins (both guests remain on set).

Segment 5: Guest 2 interview concludes followed by either of Comedic set, game with guest(s), second VT, or other bits/routines.

Segment 6: Host sign-off – ‘House Band’ performs, final sign-off.

Well done for watching an American talk show before

The show was originally pitched as a ‘Tonight Show’-style program, so why not follow the successful format others have used? Right now, it feels more like a lower-budget early version of Hey Hey rather than what it claims to be. The jokes aren’t landing, Sam seems unsure of himself, and those comedic bits are poorly timed—by the time they air, their relevance has passed. For example, the ‘logo design’ sketch would have made much more sense in Episode 1 rather than this week.

To be honest, never heard of the kid! :joy:

Ursula Carlson ‘at the desk’ next week.

If she is the desk guest, then it seems like they have made a definitive decision (after 3 weeks) that they are steering well clear of big name guests ….surely 10 could have pulled big name guests to launch this show???
Dua lipa is in the country for example……
do you think it’s on purpose? Do they not have confidence in Sam’s ability to match the big names???
Are big names locked down by the project?

Given how much guests are paid by the show to appear… Wouldn’t surprise me.

A lot of big name stars don’t even do interviews unless they’re promoting something. Dua Lipa has sold out concerts so she doesn’t need to promote anything.

Perhaps they’re trying to book guests that gel with Sam and can be funny, it’s not the 90s anymore, big guests don’t mean big ratings, look at the project….

This may come across harsh, but I’d be embarrassed if a big name celebrity went on that show and thought this is the standard of television we put out / accept in its current form.

I also just don’t think that’s what Sam set out to do from the outset, he doesn’t care about interviewing big names for the sake of it, was always touted as Sam & friends.

By the looks of it, this shows is becoming more of a “Sam Pang and Friends” type show, than a Sam Pang Tonight type show.

Sadly, not many big name celebrities do sit down interviews live here in Australia these days. Most are pre-recorded and are brief.

But i wonder if they’ll reuse guests in weeks 7 and 8…
