The Roar can reveal RA will sell up to 19.5 per cent to a private equity firm over the coming months, which could bring in anywhere from $150-$250 million depending on how much they sell off – of which the governing body will keep 75 per cent of the revenue to ensure that rugby union in Australia doesn’t ever risk going under once more and, indeed, thrives into the future.

It’s believed the governing body wants to have a deal in place by no later than September.

The Roar understands it’s Silver Lake’s – the same private equity firm that NZR (New Zealand Rugby) has partnered with – to lose, but there are a number of candidates including CVC that RA could yet partner with.

Drua fans go off. Even if their team sucks.

Like they did tonight against the Tahs.

I don’t really follow Super Rugby much, but I see 4 of the Top 5 are NZ teams, so they are still dominating that competition.

That is not a good sign ahead of the Bledisloe Cup in late July and early August, which is the only rugby I usually watch. Still hard to believe it’s been 21 years since the Wallabies have won that trophy.

They suck away from home. Very hard to beat there. If they can can sort that out, they’ll be a regular playoffs contender.

Australia still has at least one too many Super Rugby teams but there are some players playing well for Australia in Super and they’ll be a different (note: I didn’t say better) team with Eddie Jones at the helm.

Not a good start in a World Cup year for the Wallabies, losing their first 2 games of the Rugby Championship.

Last week they lost 43-12 to South Africa in Pretoria, but tonight, they somehow lost to Argentina 34-31 in Sydney.

Australia finished last on the Rugby Championship table, losing 7-38 to New Zealand at the MCG last night. The result means the All Blacks retain both Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship trophies for another year. The Wallabies were compounded by injuries to Taniela Tupou (ribs) and captain Allan Alaalatoa (leg).

Update 5/8
New Zealand came from behind to win game two of Bledisloe Cup in Dunedin this afternoon 23-20. The Wallabies scored the first two tries and led 17-3 at half time, but only scored a penalty in the second half as the All Blacks fought back.

5th straight loss for Wallabies in warm up game.

should have pulled out…

What’s the point even anymore? Like why would you bother playing for them? Players will just choose to play for a country of their heritage or just give up and go make bank playing overseas forgoing national eligibility.

Where can we watch replay of opening ceremony

I found the opening ceremony on YouTube. It’s from French commercial network TF1 (one of three official broadcasters in the country) so it was in French.

It starts at the 51 minute mark.

Edit: the opening ceremony with English commentary from the world feed

World Cup campaign on the line after another loss.

I think it’s pretty clear Hamish McClennan needs to go. Can he do anything right?

Rugby is dead in this country until he goes.
