I know this discussion is a little bit old and been going on for a while but I’m curious to know something. Does anyone else remember a patient named Vanessa from the late 90s/early 2000s? She initially had a thyroid issue (a benign tumour I think) and Professor Chris O’Brien was her surgeon. She also had kidney failure which was a separate issue if I’m remembering correctly. She started having issues because of her thyroid and got some sort of infection or lack of circulation (I can’t recall which one) and there was a risk she would lose her leg. I must have missed an episode because then I remember she had had her leg amputated above the knee.
Some time later (maybe a year or so) she was on an episode of Where are they now? and a team from RPA visited her in the country town where she lived. She was fitted with a prosthetic leg and they also mentioned she got a new kidney recently.
This girl always stood out to me because she seemed so miserable in hospital and I don’t think she had any family or anyone else come to visit. I often wonder what happened to her and if she is still alive because that was about 25 years ago or so. Does anyone know? I found a short clip of her from RPA from just after she had her leg amputated but nothing else.
