The character of Ronny Chieng is a Malaysian student who has come to Australia to study law. He’s blunt, barbed and not afraid to cut through BS, which quickly puts him at odds with most people on campus. He can’t stand stupid people, but somehow keeps getting dragged into their dramas. He has an intense relationship with his Mom, which veers between affection and agitation, often in the space of a single conversation. As a genuine outsider, Ronny is very suspicious of any group that wants him as a member. Ronny is caught between his old life and his new life, between the international students and the local students, and between his Mom’s expectations and his own dreams, whatever the hell they may be.

Molly Daniels plays Asher Angus a first-year law student from a small town in country Victoria, where the biggest cultural event is the bachelor and spinsters ball at the local footy club. Gung-ho and open to anything this new life throws at her, Asher will always go with the flow, just as long as she never has to go back to her home town. Like Ronny, she’s a genuine outsider at the University, but with her outgoing nature, Asher is the force that keeps pulling Ronny outside the safe haven of the international students.

Hoa Xuande plays Vietnamese Elvin Tay the self-appointed leader of the International Students. With a brash self-confidence that borders on blind arrogance, Elvin struts around campus like a member of an Asian boy band. Taking himself too seriously, Elvin’s the sort of guy who will never laugh at a joke, unless he made it. With his education fully funded by his parents, Elvin just wants to get through class, with the best possible marks, so he can walk straight into a high-flying legal job.

Elvin has no interest in campus culture, aside from playing Mah-jong in the international dorm with his tight-knit gang of Asian students. His idea of extracurricular activities is doing an extra law subject to earn more credit.

Shuang Hu plays Wei Jun an international student from Singapore. She’s smart, studious and very sweet, but prone to the occasional violent outburst. She’s fallen in with Elvin and Joderick, but even they couldn’t tell you what she’s thinking.

Keith Brockett is Joderick is an international student from Hong Kong. He’s polite, quiet, and unassuming, and slightly more approachable than the other International students. He’s a tech-head who is always glued to his smart phone.

Patch May plays Craig Cooper an American international student who crashes full throttle into International House in Australia, much to the frustration of the Asian international students. Craig bleeds red, white and blue and the star-spangled banner; life for him is one gigantic frat party and everyone’s invited. Craig’s an upbeat, positive person whose willingness to do anything to have a good time is both endearing and infuriating for Ronny.
