The stream will stay indefinitely, they’ll be no more efforts in canvassing other radio services for the syndication of our material, nor trying to get a license, reggie is now pretty much running the web-stream. I’ve had a few autistic folk wish me well as well in the AutismAustralia forom on reddit, but have told them the same.
There’s been a breakthrough, I’m finally out of that internet streaming shithole. Stay tuned to this channel, more to come shortly.
Okay, well, my head is still spinning, just a few weeks, and what a turn around. Just letting everyone know big things are happening, Tune into 2OOO FM insydney, on 98.5 FM from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 pm to midnight.
The true radio revolution against focus group monotony has begun, we’ll be having lots of fun in the coming months. First show commences on Monday 13th of May with Reggie, my first show will be on the Tuesday 14th.
Wow I will tune in! Great news.
I’m exstatic, for what we’ve been fighting for over the last so many years, this is a great compromise. I spose more and bigger would always be better, but the fact that we’ve got eight hours of programming on a major metro is absolutely awesome, aside from playing our massive archive of music, it will give us space to develop the disability narrative that is so missing in Sydney radio.
For the next few weeks it will mostly be music; the content will become more varied when we get some more involvement from others. What’s going to take some time is liaising with some of the disability organisations, and vetting appropriate on-air talent for the reading of the disability news segments.
All my hats go off to you, @anonymousbroadcaster . I’ve followed your struggle for access to the airwaves for years and I couldn’t be happier for you. I’m usually in bed by 2200 but I’ll see if I can grab a recording from Bungendore
As an aside, one of my old school teachers co-presented a show on 2OOO FM for several years, ‘Sunday Night Soccer’. He once claimed the signal reached Canberra and I can now say that he’s correct on that score!
Looks like you can ‘Listen Again’ to most of 2OOO FM’s shows:
Billy, thanks, you don’t know how much I appreciate your support, and the problem is as an autie, sometimes I forget to acknowledge such, so if this has been the case, please be assured your thoughts and wishes for our endeavours have not gone astray.
One day when I come down the south coast, it be great to meet up in person. Again, only get around to listening to your show occasionally, as your taste is a bit too modern and hard for my liking, but that’s not a bad thing, different strokes for different folks.
I’ve looked into the link you sent, but can’t seem to get the player working, as I’m on windoes 7, I suspect my Chrome browser can’t find it anymore, as Google won’t update Chrome for Win 7 anymore, may have to look into using firefox for this one.
As far as reception reach, WOW! OMGF, all the way to Canberra? This is going to make things interesting for seeing where we’ll get listeners from.
Fingers crossed, if the technicians in North Sydney have done a good job on reservicing our rigs, then pretty much we’re all juiced up and ready to go for a whole new era in our radio journey.
I’ll say now, I’ve never felt so happy in so many years, this is finally our big break.
With a Yagi anyway. Though 2OOO FM has a great signal nowadays, since the move to Artarmon.
Were I live in South Sydney, about 30k from the city centre, we’re in a bit of a ditch, I get all the major metro’s but with either a lot of interfeirence, or a rather moderate to week signal, well for the AMs anyway, most of the FMs come in quite good, as far as 2OOO, it’s touch and go dependent on the weather. This is on a European Philips boombox from 1983.
I really miss the days of living in South leura, well as far as radio reception, I got everything from KOFM up north to Canberra’s FM 104.7, weather permitting, and that was on a 1988 NEC boombox.
They are also on dab as well. There is a repeater at Oatley these days.
@anonymousbroadcaster the Billy Bobs show plays quite a bit of old music especially last week. A very good listen.
I used to think it was a bit obscure for me too but theres something about mr @dxnerd humour and his playlist that makes me smile. Took me a few listens to get into it, he is an accqired taste, but have definately become a staple of my thursday afternoons
Guess that means I’m going to have to pay closer attention to making sure no issues with the 98.5 transmitter, probably going to have more listeners now than it ever has. Technically I only look after the main 98.5 transmitter & antenna system, another contract tech looks after everything else 2OOO FM.
Wouldn’t have thought you’d have any reception issues with it anywhere within Sydney basin area, even though it’s not as high power as some other city wide community stations, it still reaches well outside the Sydney area from Artarmon.
Cheers. My show is devoted to the lesser known songs but is still fairly mainstream. That gives it a point of difference from the commercials (and hopefully inspires them to dig deeper).
Janalli, Sutherland, and Loftus are on a somewhat of a 10 to 15 degree gradient slope, going downwards toward the local swimming pool / sports club, and particularly the hard boundary of the Royal National Park. My location is on that southern edge, behind that hill, though it is not big, that combined with the recent construction of some 10 to 12 story apartment blocks has muffled reception on stations that broadcast out of Northern Sydney, pretty much the line of sight thing. Given when my antenna is pointed the right way, I can at times get good reception of some of the Wollongong stations, ABC Illawarra 97.3, and ABC NewsRadio which I think is on 90.9, occasionally I can get i98FM.
As far as 2OOO, most of the time the signal is pretty good, but about a week ago one night, there signal was very week, may have been the night of Mon 6th, Tues 7th; wasn’t paying too much attention, but yes, their signal does fluctuate at times.
Yes I know what you mean about the Southerland/Loftus area, & those apartment blocks along the ridge at Kirrawee, there’s thoughts at TXA that it might need a new DTV translator on top of one of those apartment blocks to beam down into the Sutherland/Loftus/Gymea Bay areas, but given the current economy of FTA TV, it wont happen or any time soon, unless the Australian economy picks up greatly again & the advertising dollars come back.
I am a bit surprised in how the 2OOO FM signal fluctuates though, temperature inversions across the Sydney basin do bend the signals, but can’t say that affects the FM’s usually very much, it’s more the higher frequencies of the VHF & UHF DTV outside of tropo events, maybe you’re getting a stronger 98.1 signal at times & it might be slightly interfering with 98.5 at your location?
2OOO is on DAB as well (different programming to the FM sometimes of the day though), & there’s a DAB infill transmitter on the hill above the Woronora bridge at Janalli. Not sure how well you’d get reception of that though either at you location as it’s designed to send the signal in the opposite direction, down into Bonnet Bay, Como & across to Oatley?
The Georges River valley is a noted blackspot for Artarmon reception, as is the Port Hacking valley around Gymea Bay/Grays Point etc. The ghosts of analogue TV stations past would often haunt my reception at Oatley. FM on a cheap boombox had quite a bit of multipath on the main Sydney signals.
Wyong Street Oatley is probably the worst blackspot you’ll find; have a look at Google Maps and you’ll see what I mean. That street could have probably used a NZ style microrepeater for TV.
I see what you mean, see pic below but there’s worse areas.
TX site on right of elevation profile. Wyong St on left.
I’m biased as I lived on the (more elevated) peninsula just to the west
Lots of tall phased arrays down the bottom of Wyong Street. But I agree there are many similar gullies in the river valleys around Sydney.
Prior to the build of the Manly TV translator, some of the tallest VHF TV Phased Array masts I’ve seen in my life on residential homes were around the (from memory) Narrabeen/Collaroy area. Don’t know about exact mast lengths, but surely 50m+ with guy wires everywhere.
I have to go for a drive down there one day. Are you entitled to an FTA satellite? Maybe Rebel and Breeze can get a license there .
