WIN 4 was also like a local FM station and thanks to the use of the Zweikanalton TV stereo signal format available on 2 frequencies
ABC RR is 80kw omin on 104.9 SDQ 4 as mentioned was 20k audio but also directional - I am guessing the signal towards Brisbane would have been low.
Yes, wouldâve been lower towards Bris.
Surprised SDQ didnât have an array in each direction, the RTN-8 TX has never reached the NSW border towards the Granite Belt. Wonder why they werenât omni in such a distant area?
Of course the video carrier could be receive quite well for SDQ4 at 200kw as a loud buzzz on 95.25.
ABDQ 3 audio was well received in Brisbane on 91.75.
Of some interest ABNT 3 Launceston was often able to be received in summer via SpE because it was off set by a large amount - IIRC to around 92.7. Also heard during summer openings on the FM band was GTS 4 Port Pirie.
Right channel on 101.0 MHz?
NBN3/WIN3 could be heard on 91.75 (L) and 92.0 MHz (right). Technically 91.76 in the case of WIN3, though they shifted to 91.7 in the dying days of analogue, presumably to cater for the Wollongong commuters who wished to listen to the local news.
I did manage to hear 100.75 GTS4 via Es, as well as 91.75 ABRS3. And of course ABTQ3 Townsville on its unusual offset at 92.75 (77)?
Yes the offset was + 0.25 Mhz. The main audio was L + R to maintain compatibility with mono TVs. The subcarrier was transmitted at 1/10 the power IIRC.
This was amazing, I remember a holiday to SA and keenly awaiting to tune it in as a local signal. What was its audio carrier freq, somewhere around 101?
Later on that holiday, enjoyed Kambaldaâs Band II FM carriers and the best of all, the main SW WA TX with ABC and GWN on the car radio. Great to enjoy 9âs cricket coverage at its zenith in the 90âs whilst driving around.
I was able to catch SSW3 (91.75) and ABSW5 (107.75) in Bunners as well, in 2005. Listening to the kids show âMadelineâ was a hoot, as well as Rage of course.
I believe @dxer2_2000 has received both audio and vision carriers via double hop Es.
I remember staying at Busselton in 2007, and getting good FM audio from SSW-3 and ABSW-5 indoors with my radioâs telescopic aerial horizontal but it was considerably worse on the vertical plane.
100.75.
Anywhere on the Downs gave good reception of ABDQ3 and SDQ4
I used to get a very clear FM reception of ABLV4 from Gippsland in Melbourne, almost like a local station.
and the FM reception of ABGV3 came in very handy on Sunday nights at 6pm when driving around the Goulburn Valley listening to âCountdownâ. I used to do mix tapes of songs from that show.
In the Late 80âs And Well into the 90âs, Melbourneâs Home Of Easy Listening (Todayâs Adult Contemporary) 1377 3MP was a Ratings Leader In itâs Home City, But like 2SM itâs Ratings Deteriorate Sharply and by the 2010âs, It Converted To Talk Which was Unsuccessful And Went Back To Music And Left The Ratings Race Completely In 2014.
Before ABC NewsRadio launched on the Parliamentary News Network, what was broadcast when parliament wasnât in session? Music? Open carrier? Completely off-air? Or something else?
Off air Iâm lead to believe. When did the PB/PNN stations start broadcasting?
I have recorded 3 Oct 1988 but canât be sure. State capitals plus Newcastle and Canberra.
completely off-air AFAIK
And NewsRadio itself was established in August 1994 according to the ABCâs website.
Radio legend Malcolm T Elliott has died, aged 73.
The former 2GB, 2UE and 2UW host started in radio in 1967 and went on to star on television shows like Blankety Blanks .
Malcolm T revolutionised breakfast radio in Australia, turning it into a formula of fun and satire.
Not sure he was on Blankety Blanks though - IIRC he was on Celebrity Squares @TelevisionAU might be able to advise??
I canât confirm or deny but the name sounds familiar in that context. You may be right. I certainly donât recall him on Blankety Blanks
