1314, 1431 was 2WN (now 2RN). As I assume you meant 2WL not 2WN?

Or maybe it was from the days before the Geneva Frequency Plan of 1975 came into effect when 2WL was on 1430 while 2WN was on 1580. Of course as we all know afterwards, 2WL moved to 1314, 2WN moved to 1431 and 1575 was used for 2OO

Update on The River Wikipedia project:

Thanks to @Radiohead, I have with me 3 sources from 30 July-1 August 1998 about the launch of 105.7 The River (2BDR). I’m in Albury by coincidence this weekend for a family event, looking to improve the stub Wikipedia article. If anyone here has published sources about The River / Triple M from 2003 to 2016, I’m looking for the date, the page number and the newspaper or website it was published in.

From a $100 M baby boomer experiment to ‘billion dollar babies’ with Alice Cooper. I’d say Vega was a bargain on that score?

(I do remember 95.3 Classic Rock…it was far too safe and very similar to WS as that article related). I am not sure if they played the ‘true’ Nights With Alice playlist or not.

I think the “Nights” playlist was the ‘true’ one as the intros from Alice often referred to the intended song.

I like the comment about how rival programmers thought they should’ve gone for a softer music format. Is this where smooth was conceived?

Yeah I sampled Classic Rock a bit and it was far too safe and narrow. Too similar to WS. They really didn’t play a very broad classic rock. They could have included a lot more variety of rock genres and there were just too many overflogged songs.

what about 3MP’s attempt at classic rock about a decade ago?

Wasn’t that SEN’s Classic Rock Radio on DAB+ only?

No, it was also on 1377AM. It was launched in October 2016, just weeks after Triple M shut its Classic Rock DAB+ station for being “too popular” (but was later reinstated in July 2017).

Remember the weird Italian-English hybrid format. Even had Toddy on overnights until cancer did him in. young and not used to foreign language programs, I thought that 3AK pronounced by one of the Italian annoucers was “Ah lah Tree A Carts Uh”

Here is the full list of that countdown:

Thanks, yes, I have an Excel version of it. Some great songs on that list.

As an aside, the ‘mrock.com.au’ url is fun - it was very weird how they did their station urls back in the day, rather than just have something frequency based, or the triplem.com.au/city that they eventually moved to, they had all unique site names, with triplem.com.au being just a landing page.

They were mmmelb in Melbourne, mytriplem for Adelaide, mrock for Sydney and triplemrocks for Brisbane.

Amusingly given what happened decades later, the earliest website Triple M seemed to have was hosted by company called scamedia living on a subdomain for a bit.
