This has got me thinking about stations who just id’d as the letters and left the numbers off (at least some of the time).
4KQ springs to mind. They often id’d as just “KQ” especially in the 70s.

The closest I can come up is with 2NX, as in the 1980s at night time it was relayed to 2NM Muswellbrook, so they cut the ‘2’ off NM and made the evening ID 2NXNM (though the jingles were still the same ‘1341 2NX’ as used in the daytime).

Yes I used to pick up 2NX-NM at night. Not sure if it was from 2NX or 2NM though to be honest.
Similarly at night there was 4HI-LG.

FM106 must be referencing the Ulladulla translator on 106.7. That’s closer to ‘X107’ territory methinks. They’ve clearly had the Ulladulla translator since I was in nappies; perhaps this is why they got to keep it despite the higher powered 91.7 conversion.

I remember reading on a document that 2ST’s Ulladulla translator was originally on 106.1 when it first went to air in 1988 before eventually moving to 106.7.

In 1979 2SM use to occasionally promote themselves as 1SM. It was often with the slogan “There’s Only 1SM”
You can see it in this television advertisement from 1979 at about the 45 second mark.

106.1 was later used for test broadcasts by Living Sound Broadcasters (2LIV), now 94.1. I know this because I have an aircheck of them. Obviously too much interference from 2ABCFM Newcastle for 106.1 to remain viable in the Illawarra.

I think 2UUU used 106.1 in Nowra originally too but must have had the same issue, but I think last time I was there 106.1 was just static for me, presumably shielded by the Buderoo National Park mountains.

Depends on the tropo of course. Even Eden isn’t entirely safe from Mount Sugarloaf when the seabreeze inversion strikes.
