Pye Records is established in business as our Australian record company and we are about to give the folk in Sydney and Melbourne the benefit of Muzak.
Pye also used to manufacture TVs and radios into the 70s and 80s … though they were a British company from what Google tells me. I suspect not the same company as above?
the article comes from the Australian outpost of British company Associated Television (ATV), so Pye Records was probably an off-shoot of the manufacturing company.
“Bumper” sticker from the 80s; the original KIIS (supposedly because it looked like 115 -i.e. 1150 AM its original frequency.
ATV can be blamed for a lot of things. Dont worry they got punished in the long term…the IBA mafe them restructure and become Central.
Could’ve called them “The Jet” or “Jumbo Radio” or “Jet Powered 6SE”.
Ah yes, KIIS FM in Los Angeles. There was an aircheck of it from 1985 courtesy of The Radio Vault, but that’s gone now.
Just uploaded a couple of KIIS (LA) airchecks including emergency broadcasting system and official station ID
Maybe they saw a ‘black tie only’ sign and thought they didn’t need to wear anything else?
Arent there seals in Esperance?

Google is your friend. Yes

fair enough. Although none of them are wearing bow-ties
Could’ve been Seal Radio with Seal singing the jingle.
Also, Google is not your friend. It is a pervert and stalker.
Any chance he said “3 FOX FM” instead?
No, it was just “the FOX FM” (no 3 mentioned).
I used to love listening out for those. In earlier years Casey didn’t read out the station names, instead there were short ID clips played from most stations. Like “This is KXYZ in Smallville, the home of …”.
Same here, and also when Barry Bissell did the same on ‘Take 40 Australia’ though there were a lot fewer stations he could mention!
I first heard American Top 40 on FOX FM in August 1981. It had previously been on 3DB but switched stations probably earlier in the winter. Around that time, 3DB switched from a hit music format to an older music format, while FOX FM switched from a smooth/easy listening type format to a more mainstream music format. Perhaps that’s why FOX FM took over airing American Top 40.
I remember when they first went to air in 1980 , their jingle was “This is the FOX, stereo FM 101.9” A year later, when they switched to a more mainstream format, their jingle was “Stereo Fm, Melbourne, 101.9, The FOX.” I can’t remember if they also used FOX FM or not. I do remember a TV ad which went “Having a good time with The FOX, 101.9 FOX FM.” but I can’t remember when that was.
