Its my understanding that ABC local stations used to have a big music component until talk progressively took over all the slots.

I seem to remember as a teen in the 1990s that 3LO was still playing music over breakfast (eg Rod McNeil) whilst it’s was mostly talk during the day.

In the mid-1980s, before JJJ came to Melbourne, 3LO had Sunday Night Live, which was a youth-focussed music program including live performances.
